When comes to retrenchments, how come those who are axed always come from the rank and file..? Those who make the retrenchment announcement will never get retrenched..?

The cost saved to axe the rank & file people would be too negligible.

We should apply the 20% and 80% rule when come to retrenchment - Remove one million-dollar salary earner could be equivalent to removing few hundreds to a thousand lower rank people. After all, works are done by these people. Sould keep them!

Those million-dollar earners only spend time clearing their emails, attending resort-style conference, attending meetings - one meeting after another (and more meetings generate more emails to be cleared and those million-dollars earners and super-scale clowns are caught in this vicious circle), and many other unproductive activities.. These are the people that should be retrenched as they possess no skills besides those time-wasting activities. You chuck them into market place, see what will happen to them?

Singapore views retrenchments as a positive as it helps clear out the deadwood and enable companies to rejuvenate their workforces.

The govt is therefore encouraging retrenchments for the long term good of the nation.

It's no different from a soccer team where faded stars move on, older players who are past their prime hang up their boots for good while new talent steps up to take the team to greater heights.

I think retrenchments also do a world of good for those layed off. It forces people to rethink their values and their priorities in life. It also creates wonderful new opportunities to embark upon a new and often more rewarding journey.

They can start cleaning at the 'attic' first, the top of the chain, is ridden with deadwood, begining with that 'wooden', WKS etc..

You don't clean the ATTIC, junk will collect, what is the use of cleaning the rest of the HOUSE?

You forgot that they themselves are NOT INCLUDED in the "more retrenchment".
Why should they bother and worry?

They are very good at stating the obvious. Not so good at having solutions to the common peoples' problems.
