Where is Yaw Shin Leong?

Facebook page deleted, mobile phone turned off. Even fellow party members are unable to get in touch with former Workers' Party (WP) Hougang Member of Parliament Yaw Shin Leong.

Has he gone missing? Did he flee the country? These are some questions on people's minds after news broke out about his alleged affairs.

The New Paper and Lianhe Wanbao reported that Mr Yaw was spotted alone with luggage on Wednesday night at Changi Airport Terminal 1.

It is believed that he might have fled the country amid the allegations. Even WP chairman Sylvia Lim does not know his whereabouts.

According to The New Paper, Mr Yaw was no longer in Singapore by the time WP announced his expulsion at a press conference held at 5pm.

After the announcement, a Lianhe Wanbao reporter attempted to contact Mr Yaw via iPhone's WhatsApp app, and noticed that the last time he was online was 6.29pm.

Mr Yaw was not at home when reporters visited him at 11.30pm and the next day at 6am.

Lianhe Wanbao also reported that the married woman in question has not returned home for a few weeks.

This is the first time an MP was expelled based on allegations of his private life.

For the past month, Mr Yaw remained tight-lipped on allegations accusing him of having an extramarital affair with a married party colleague. He also answered all media queries with a "no comment".

His silence forced the party to act after he avoided several opportunites to explain himself.

"We have invited Shin Leong to come to speak with the council, but he has not done so," said Ms Lim at the press conference.

She said that party's central executive council (CEC) gave him one more shot at explaining himself but he chose not to come.

Ms Lim also said the party could not contact Mr Yaw to inform him of the CEC's decision to expel him and had to speak to his wife instead.

The recent incidents have prompted National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan to say that WP should come clean with the people and why it took so long to investigate the allegations.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also commented on WP's handling of Yaw's alleged affair, saying that the WP has let down Hougang voters.

However, Mr Tay, a 32-year-old engineer said that he would continue to support WP.

"As a public figure, Mr Yaw is supposed to be a role model and should not have done what he supposedly did. This whole issue, however, does not affect my support for WP," told Mr Tay to The New Paper.

Some people Lianhe Wanbao spoke to said they will continue to support WP, while others said the believe that the People's Action Party will have an opportunity this time to win Hougang single-member constituency back. Hougang has been in the hands of WP since 1991.

Those SPH running dogs should stop hounding Yaw.. Time to give him a break.. His reputation already in tatters, political future all finished now and personal life in disarray.. The way these crazy SPH dogs are chasing after him is utterly disgraceful..

Yaw allegedly involved with 3 women

The three women allegedly involved with Yaw Shin Leong have been exposed.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, the first woman is Angela Oon, a Worker's Party (WP) candidate in the previous general election.

Ms Oon, 33, previously stated that she will not confirm nor deny rumours of an affair with Yaw.

When reporters spoke to her over the phone, Ms Oon sounded uneasy and avoided answering questions. She then claimed that she is overseas right now and hastily hung up.

Angela Oon's profile has also been removed from the WP website, further arousing suspicion from concerned members of the public.

The other rumoured women include a married Chinese national tuition teacher and social worker Zeng Xiao Ping, who is also a member of the WP.

Meanwhile, Yaw's whereabouts remain unknown but he may have been spotted leaving the country yesterday morning.

According to The New Paper, a member of the public reported seeing Yaw alone and carrying luggage at Changi Airport Terminal 1.

It is unknown where he may be flying off to.

His Facebook page has also been disabled and his mobile phone switched off. Reporters believe that not even people from the WP can manage to contact him right now.

Yaw, undone by rumours of extramarital affairs, will go down in Singapore's history as the first incumbent MP to be removed from his position in parliament.

Take care of the bag. My computer in it along with my Application As PAP member papers.
Lots of sensitive data.
Lost, chia laat.
The PAP will announce me as their new candidate for Hougang SMC

His face is too hot these few days. Singapore too small to hide for some quiet and peaceful moments. Going overseas to lie low until the talk is less heated, then quietly fly back.

I don't think Frieda Chan is involved in Yaw's alleged affairs. She spoke up for him. Wonder if the papers anythow write...

Miss Frieda Chan, a WP member and a social worker, spoke up for Mr Yaw. She said that she and Mr Yaw were in the Democratic Socialist Club (DSC) when they were in the National University of Singapore (NUS) in the late 1990s.

Started in 1964 to promote political and current affairs awareness among NUS undergraduates, the club is not linked to any political party.

'Never an item'

Said Miss Chan: "Some people thought we were an item then, but we were not. We were just very close."

Sometimes, she and Mr Yaw still joke about those days, she said.

She recalled fondly how Mr Yaw "built up the DSC from scratch".

"There was a point when the accounts were in deficit, but he brought our organisation together and our membership expanded," she said.

Miss Chan added that from the time she knew him, Mr Yaw was well-liked by both men and women and was a good mediator when conflicts arose.

Describing him as a "very helpful", "well-organised" person, she said these qualities were still evident when they worked alongside each other in the WP.

Miss Chan contested in Moulmein- Kallang GRC in last year's General Election.

Although she admired his qualities and people often teased them about being an item, Miss Chan said "nothing ever happened" between them.

She said she has spoken neither to Mr Yaw nor the female WP member about the allegations, as she finds it "too sensitive" a topic to broach.

Yaw Shin Leong made plans to skip town weeks ago: Sources

Ousted Hougang MP Yaw Shin Leong saw the end coming and made plans to leave Singapore weeks before he was axed by the Workers' Party (WP), sources revealed on Thursday.

He skipped town on Wednesday, hours before news of his expulsion from the party was made public.

Sources told The Straits Times he is now figuring out his options to relocate overseas for the long term.

Just nine months after being elected to succeed long-time MP Low Thia Khiang, the 35-year-old businessman was sacked from his party and lost his seat in Parliament.

He'd made a decision. I wish him the very best.

He owes the Hougang residents a sincere apology though. Haven't heard him say that yet.
