TWO youths who took part in a fatal assault on an 18-year-old were sentenced to reformative training on Friday, but a third may go to jail instead because he is a foreigner. Liu Wing Sing may not be suitable for the long period of reformative training given that he would probably be repatriated, said Community Court Judge Soh Tze Bian. Joshua Leong Wei Jun and Kan Zhan Peng will undergo the reformative training, which is an 18- to 36-month process involving incarceration as well as rehabilitation. The three, who are all 20 years old, had admitted to causing grievous hurt to Mr Siah Wui Xiang at the open carpark of People's Park Centre in Havelock Square on Jan 3. Kan had kicked Mr Siah who fell and hit his head on the pavement. The victim died four days later of the head injury. The trio had also pleaded guilty to punching Mr Siah's friend, Mr Ou Wen Han, 18, and using a beer bottle to hit him on the head in the same incident beside Furama Shopping Centre.

Reading the case again, it doesn't make sense to have them suffer a long term jail sentence, they kick the guy but the cause of death was the guy's head injuries which he substain when he fell down rather then someone whack him. Although I agree that the sentence in this instance is still too light, however, asking for life just because of a freak accident is also too much

1. aggressors are not elites.

2. it is not fair coz reformative training is worse than jail...it is also jail with additional training like marching...min is 1.5yrs and max is 3yrs..but no discount...jail is relac one corner...and got 33% discount for good behaviour...

The prosecutor should appeal - if it is not murder then at least "culpable homicide not amounting to murder" - whatever it means - and have these gangsters jail for at least 6 years rather than just a tap on their wrists.

Didn't the police always say that there are far too many of these gangsters around and they are a menace to society and ought to be taught a lesson to deter future offences of such nature?

The law is bizzare in this instance - you push somebody and he gets knock on his head and dies - no murder. What if someone pushed a fella down 36 floor - the push didn't kill him, but his body hitting the ground did. Is this not murder?

Well, justice is blind or is it not, or just blind justice of the human minds. In this case it was causing grievous hurt and someone died.The recent appeal case of a paedophile who got 32 years but no one died. How does the law works and how was justice served, keep wondering. There never will be straight answers.....:p
