Chitchat Would adding a new contact to my Whatsapp reveal my tel nos. to the new contact ?

If I switch everything to "nobody", according to the discussion so far, my phone number will still be exposed to the party who is in contact with me via Whatsapp.

yup obviously. they alreayd have your number. nigger.

So the next time when a salesperson asks me to add him or her to my Whatsapp and readily offers his or her mobile number, his or her intention is really to get my phone number.

suggest that you don't use whatsapp if you don't know how to use it. junk it. otherwise we'll still be giving you advice until cows cum home.

This is also a line of argument I often adopt when I am not too familiar with a product. :D

The truth is there is no way to hide my phone number from my whatsapp contact.

once they have it, it is over. best way is to use a new number, something like 6969-6969.

I have his number, but he doesn't have mine.

So if I search for his number via Whatsapp and add him, will my tel number be exposed to him as well ?

Any Whatsapp expert ?

You seem to be a dimwit….it would not surprise me to learn that you are a Singo.

If you would not normally give your number to a certain person, then you would certainly not add them to Whatsapp….its as simple as that.

Whatspp is like Facebook in its early days - silent on certain matters of privacy in their FAQ but will make a song and dance about how they are religious about privacy and anal about the need for encryption. Their app is device specific and device dependent unlike FaceTime or Imessaegs so it is easier to do the linkages. Its like the smart alec who bought the best lock in the world to secure his trunk full of gold bars on the understanding that it cannot be broken. So the robbers just caught hold of the smart alec and asked him to unlock the trunk. Ms Teo So Lung and Roy found why they were important finally.

Your number will only be revealed if you reply to the party's whatsapp msg. If you do not want him to know your number, why bother to add the person(s) concerned in your directory in the first place.

Bro,

You first add the person onto your contact list, and then you block that person on WhatsApp. You can still see that person's profile and status and "last seen" if he does not set it to private. He will not know you have added him or monitoring him.

He or she won't get your number unless you make the first call or send a text message to his mobile.

Bonut does not want his/her mobile number revealed if she decides to add the salesperson or any other party for that matter to her whatsapp directory.
As I've said b4, don't call or send any text msg in the first place. Bonut will have the salesperson number in her phone and whatsapp directory and Bonut can sleep in peace.

Text msgs aside, you can make free calls on your whatsapp n line app. If u block a party using your whatsapp settings, it will only affect incoming msgs or calls for your whatsapp app. Similarly for Line.
You have to go to your phone directory to effectively block the party concerned.
I hope this helps.
