Worth Helping?

The first is the case of the prc woman who died in the swimming pool of a man's house. Her family came to SG and their bereavement was reported in the newspapers.Subsequently, some people made donations, which were collected and given to the family.

say i also angry, who are these nuts in singapore who donate money to prc whore family, what did her family and her do to deserve money from singapore?

Kudos to you doing that. But yeah, when it's peak hours, the crowds can be "lucrative".

The sad thing about giving to beggars all these years is that I realized that many of them smoke. It's like an industrial standard.

What to do, we are ransomed by compassion. I practice saying no at peak hours, but at off peak hours, i tend to say no less.

Before the economic downturn, I've never said no to beggars. Ever. I used to not take taxis and take bus just to give money to beggars. I could even memorize where each beggar would be at Orchard Road.

But I got really peeved after I saw a beggar smoke. My money gone up in smoke! AAAH!! :(

I think it's like being conned by FL. If a guy got conned before, he's less likely to trust women. So is this the point of this thread? :D:D:D
What do you think is the point of this thread?
Did you notice that the thread is entitled "Worth Helping?" and not "Don't Help Others" or "These People Are Not Worth Helping"?
I'm asking you whether you think these people are worth helping.
In the case of the prc family, I'm questioning whether the donors are aware that there are lots of needy people in SG who need help and who have not received their help.
In the case of the $2 woman, it's not about political beliefs at all. It's about having clarity of thinking and doing correct things for the correct reasons. I'm questioning why this woman is approaching ordinary people on the street and not getting help from the people whom she so admires and who are in a position of power and wealth to really help her.

If you make it this way. Do we need to donate to NKF/Renci/what ever charity in TV show?
It depends on whether you think they are worth helping.
If you really want to help, why not donate directly to people whom you know need help and are worthy of help?

You are right, they did not do anything to deserve any money from Singaporeans, who would be better off donating their money to really needy Singaporeans.
If there is anyone who should give them money, it's the rich man who brought the late woman to his home to spend the night.

the last case is PAP. They say if we dun give them more $$, we'll in deep shit

you can call me a "tua la la", whoever asked for help, I will not hesitate. I am not a saint but if someone opened mouth and ask for help, I think he/she must be quite desperate.
I am not rich but i think if I can help others within my means, why not?

what is tua la la you idiot?

The third case is a real encounter I had while walking on the streets.

An elderly woman (in her 60s or 70s) came up to me and asked me to give her $2. While I was waiting for the traffic light to change earlier, I had already noticed her asking others. Hence it was not only $2 she sought.
I asked her what she wanted the money for. She claimed that she wanted to have her lunch. Ok, so she was either planning for the whole month's lunch, or she was planning to have lunch at a hotel.

Feeling cheeky, I asked her whether she supported pap. She replied that LKY is a hero and Singapore would be nowhere without the pap. "So where are you now?" I thought to myself. Of course, I couldn't be sure whether she really thought so or perhaps she was just saying that because she thought I was a supporter. I decided to take her at face value. I told her that since she thought they were so great, she should go and ask them for money, and walked away.
She looked stunned but later, I saw her asking others for money again.

Some of you may say that I lack compassion or that I was mean, but do you think she is worth helping?

stupid old useless uneducated unskilled semi brained broke wrinkly bald ah soh.

we'll in deep shit? you are so full of shit it is leaking out of your mouth you pathetic illiterate trash. go clean my tables and lick my toes.

Beggars don't buy cigarettes, not even if you gave them money. They simply beg for cigarettes when they come across smokers.

You shld have taken up Scroobal's game to post the most misleading thread and win a prize donated by leongsam of a sum of $100 (sam, it;s US$100 right? or NZ$100?). You can then donate it to whomever you fancy on the streets or in this forum.

hey bro, your statements very enlightening and encouraging!;)

If you have the money, spread the cheers...

Don't be a stingy selfish bastards...

Don't always expect you will wake up everyday and breathe a smell of fresh air in the morning....

You may just die in your sleep....then who will enjoy your riches?

There are 1 billion people going hungry everyday, and 700 million people in China alone are living below the poverty line....

If you can help one to alleviate their poverty, you are saving the world....:D

I just want to say that we can always help people even without using money.

A kind word for people, some caring thoughts of concern, even saying a prayer for someone we care for.

Thoughts that count mean even more than what money can buy.

Thanks for listening guys! :)
