On Sunday (29 Mar), 17-year-old Amos Yee was arrested for a video he posted that allegedly celebrated the death of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister. The eight-minute-long video also included remarks about Christianity that some people found insensitive.
More than 20 police reports have reportedly been filed against him over the video as well as obscene material posted on his blog. Both the video and the blog post have since been removed.

In a statement yesterday (30 Mar), police said Amos will face charges in court today under Section 298 of the Penal Code for utterances against Christians with a “deliberate intent to wound religious feelings”. Other charges include circulating an obscene object and making threatening, abusive or insulting communication which is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The video, called Lee Kuan Yew Is Finally Dead!, had been viewed more than 600,000 times.

It's like someone doesn't like your uploaded video on Youtube because you had expressed a viewpoint which they detest, but one particular segment of your video uses some copyrighted music. So they flag the video for copyright infringement and Youtube takes it down.

Amos Yee Pang Sang, 16, could face up to three years in prison over footage calling city state’s first minister and Jesus Christ ‘malicious’

A teenager has been charged over a video he posted online that was critical of the nation’s late founder as well as Christianity.

In the eight-minute clip posted on YouTube, 16-year-old Amos Yee Pang Sang said Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s first prime minister, and Jesus Christ were both “malicious”, among other disparaging comments.


The video has been taken off Yee’s YouTube channel, but copies continue to circulate on social media.

Yee was arrested on Sunday, the same day the country held an elaborate state funeral for Lee, who died on 23 March aged 91.

At a Singapore court on Tuesday Yee was charged with three offences – two for insulting Christianity and the late statesman and another for allegedly transmitting online an “obscene representation”, according to court documents.

Yee, who had previously made local headlines with his controversial and opinionated videos, could face up to three years in jail if found guilty. He was bailed but has been ordered to stop posting any content online pending the outcome of his case.

His subsequent behaviour (in addition to demeanour) indicates to me, without a shadow of a doubt, that he has NO REMORSE whatsoever about insulting my intelligence. I sincerely ask him to repeat this or similar statements, so Sinkies can file police reports against him as an instrument to be used in the Court of Public Opinion.
