World Cup 2014 Thread...

Cup is made of 18 carat gold.

FIFA World Cup Trophy

A replacement trophy was commissioned by FIFA for the 1974 World Cup. Fifty-three submissions were received from sculptors in seven countries.[10][11] Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga was awarded the commission. The trophy stands 36.5 centimetres (14.4 inches) tall and is made of 5 kg (11 lb) of 18 carat (75%) gold with a base (13 centimetres [5.1 inches] in diameter) containing two layers of malachite. It has been asserted by Martyn Poliakoff that the trophy is hollow; if, as is claimed, it were solid, the trophy would weigh 70–80 kg and would be too heavy to lift.[12][13] Produced by Bertoni, Milano in Paderno Dugnano, it weighs 6.175 kg (13.6 lb) in total and depicts two human figures holding up the Earth. Gazzaniga described the trophy thus, "The lines spring out from the base, rising in spirals, stretching out to receive the world. From the remarkable dynamic tensions of the compact body of the sculpture rise the figures of two athletes at the stirring moment of victory."[10]

The trophy has the engraving "FIFA World Cup" on its base. The names of winning countries are engraved on the bottom side of the trophy, and are therefore not visible when the trophy is standing upright. The inscriptions state the year in figures and the name of the winning nation in its national language; for example, "1974 Deutschland" or "1994 Brasil". In 2010, however, the name of the winning nation was engraved as "2010 Spain", in English, not in Spanish.[14][15] As of 2010, ten winners have been engraved on the base. It is not known whether FIFA will retire the trophy after they run out of space at the bottom; as recent images of the trophy show, there is space left for only three more engravings at the most, which means that should occur in 2030, when the tournament will celebrate its 100th anniversary.[14] FIFA's regulations now state that the trophy, unlike its predecessor, cannot be won outright: the winners of the tournament receive a Bronze replica which is gold plated rather than solid gold.[10] Germany won the trophy for the third time in 2014.[16]

Ho ho ho ho... this is the best World Cup ever! Why? Underdogs teams Costa Rica, Mexico, Chile, Greece etc.. gave favorites a run for their money. These teams get better over time. Remember this... no teams are invincible.

Spain tiki-taka got found out by LVG and Chile. They have dominated for the past decade but no more. Now they need to change the system.

Out of the 15Ks, I made about 5Ks on the Grand Finals.

Took Argentina plus 1/4 ball handicap and took Germany on level ball during added time.

Football eh Ah Bengs call it "Jackpot."

Ho ho ho ho... Good for you. It's meant to be bookies WC (including loser sgpools) going by the number of draws...........

Thank you all for the reply. Even 18 carat gold can be very expensive.

funny sial can display the trophy for only 4 years.

And bet Valencia CF to LOSE.. long time profitable investment. Peter the bloke Lim, are u reading this? You can forget about occupying top three of the Liga table. Even powerhouse Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid are not invincibles and have been beaten by bogey teams :D

Tim Krul's penalty antics

Tim Krul’s was on the pitch at this World Cup for a sum total of about 10 minutes. The Newcastle keeper’s substitution in extra-time for the shoot-out against Costa Rica will go down as one of the boldest managerial decisions ever made at the finals. Louis van Gaal rolled the dice and won. Krul dived the right way for every penalty and saved two.

But it was the stopper’s tactic in between kicks that saw his accused of gamesmanship. Before every penalty, Krul went up to each taker, mouthing that he knew which way they would go, while interminably stalking his penalty area with his 6ft 4inch frame. The show of gamesmanship elicited jeering from the crowd in the Arena Fonte Nova, not that either Krul or his boss cared too much.

All the memorable World Cup moments, condensed into one picture.

Not kelong. Felipao's tactics are shit.

Also, Brazil's strikers Fred and Jo are crap.

Fred is a good name for a male dog. Jo is a good name for a female dog.

Hope all brudders made a killing in this WC :D
It's all about economics , it's not about sportsmanship anymore .....

BERLIN (AFP) - Commentators chided the German football team on Wednesday for gently mocking Argentina during a giant World Cup winners party in Berlin, an event that marked a rare exuberant celebration of national pride.

In a country where strident patriotism is still largely taboo, newspapers said the young players' "tasteless" victory dance on Tuesday reflected badly on the country.

Six of the players including Mario Goetze, the sole scorer during Sunday's 1-0 win over Argentina, performed a taunt often seen in stadium stands, on a stage set up behind the capital's Brandenburg Gate before hundreds of thousands of flag-waving fans.

"This is how the gauchos (Argentines) walk, the gauchos walk like this," they sang, hunched over, to cheers from the crowd.

now you have THE GREAT GERMAN CHARACTER!!!

BERLIN — They are already calling it Gauchogate.

In the span of a few seconds on a Berlin stage Tuesday, the German national soccer team appeared to undo at least a measure of the goodwill it engendered after bringing home the World Cup title. As thousands of fans who poured into the streets to welcome them home watched, six of Germany's victorious players put on a little display called "the gaucho dance."
