World Cup 2014 Thread...

What did I say about 'die die must save face'?

NCPG, just admit that you've fucked up and say sorry. Don't be so thick skinned like your masters in white.

The cantonese will say, fall down also must grab a handful of sand.

Boy ah, next time ask your Dad to bet England. :o

Swee la! England the new World Champion! :D

Nothing wrong with supporting the team u like but when a specific biased bookmaker has a semi finals plate for England at the start of the tournament while excluding many other teams, they are making carrot heads out of England supporters and punters who are non England fans.

Though supremely talented, Mario Gotze was not the star of a German team packed with talent until he made himself the hero by scoring the World Cup final's only goal deep into extra time. Gotze did not play at all in Germany's 7-1 domination of Brazil in the semifinals and only made a seven-minute cameo at the end of their quarterfinal win over France. He was once again out of the starting lineup for the final, and wasn't brought on until the 88th minute, but that ended up suiting him just fine. Here's everything you need to know about the man who sealed Germany's fourth World Cup title...

-Still just 22 years old, Gotze made a contentious*€37 million ($50 million) move from boyhood club Borussia Dortmund to rival Bayern Munich last summer. This was seen as an unforgivable betrayal by Dortmund fans and since the deal was announced two months before the end of the season, they had ample time to let him know it. One banner read: "The pursuit of money shows how much heart you really have. F*** off Gotze!"*

-That transfer made Gotze the second most expensive German player ever behind only Mesut Ozil, who moved from Real Madrid to Arsenal a few months later for 50 million euros ($66 million).

-Bayern had to apologize to kitmaker and minority owner Adidas after Gotze showed up to his first press conference wearing a Nike shirt.

-Coming into a Bayern team that won the treble the season before, Gotze was a favorite of new manager Pep Guardiola but still struggled to hold down a starting spot at times. He finished the season with 15 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.

-His professional career only consists of five seasons, but he's already won two Bundesliga titles and a DFB Pokal with Dortmund, then he won the Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup last season with Bayern. And now he's gone and added a World Cup winner's medal to the mix.

-He can juggle his chewing gum. And has no problem resuming his chewing after he's done so.

Who got misled by not turning up for work today? :p

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/public-holiday-for-world/1262544.html

SINGAPORE: The President's Office on Monday (July 14) confirmed that it did not issue a letter circulating online, which claimed that President Tony Tan Keng Yam had declared a public holiday the day of the World Cup Final. It added that the Ministry of Manpower is responsible for the announcements of all public holidays.

According to the hoax letter, the holiday was meant to allow all Singaporeans to have a chance to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final between Germany and Argentina, and had the approval of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Government offices would be closed on Monday, the letter claimed.

However, the President's Office said in a statement on Monday: "It has come to our attention that there is a letter circulating on mobile and online platforms in the name of President Tony Tan Keng Yam declaring today (July 14) a public holiday. We would like to clarify that the President’s Office did not issue such a letter.

"Public holidays are announced by the Ministry of Manpower and can be found on their website here."

Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance

Just one final comment from me and that is Messi should never have been awarded the Golden Ball. This is a sad reflection of the state of FIFA that it awards based on marketing opportunities rather than contribution. So many other players were more deserving.

The sooner Sepp Blatter goes, the better for World football.

Agree. Several others more deserving.
