The ads have become unmitigated disaster. Thought they will use the World. Cup to raise their profile. It backfired badly and lots of money spent. Even their state's official mouth organ has ridiculed it.

The winners of the 20th FIFA World Cup will be decided in a mouth-watering clash between two giants of international football in the historic Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Between them, Argentina and Germany have won 5 World Cup tournaments and both teams make part of the relatively short list of 8 nations that have won football’s greatest prize.
The three nations in this list hailing from South America (Brazil, Argentina & Uruguay) have won the World Cup a combined nine times. The other five nations in this list are Europeans (Germany, Italy, Spain, France & England) and overall they have 10 such titles to their name. A victory for Argentina in Rio will tie the score between both continents.

First and foremost, the World Cup final is a celebration of the sport's strongest footballing nations, but it also represents the opportunity to make a little something back for all those hours of loyal viewing.

Sunday evening will see Germany and Argentina face off at the Maracana in what many predict will be a tight affair, but only once the action gets underway will we know the game's course of action.

In the build-up to the Rio de Janeiro clash, we've compiled a selection of the most enticing odds for the greatest fixture in any football calendar.

All odds come courtesy of Oddschecker.com.

With Argentina having seen out what was the more boring of the two semi-finals, beating the Netherlands on penalties after a scoreless 120 minutes, it's not outside the realms of possibility that another low-scoring affair will follow on Sunday.

However, it wasn't long ago that Alejandro Sabella's men edged a 3-2 win over Nigeria, showing that this side is very capable of conceding in decent numbers.

...Oddschecker>>>have the game as high as 10-1 for the two teams to produce more than 4.5 goals, drawing the attention for a low-stake bet, while the even more adventurous can find odds of 25-1 for there to be more than 5.5 goals.

Alternatively, you can back any one player to see the majority of the scoring delights, with Thomas Mueller and Lionel Messi priced at 11-1 and 12-1, respectively, to score two goals or more....

Germany have a magnificent chance to become the first European nation ever to claim a World Cup in South America, but there remains an air of creeping doubt about the whole scenario.....

Argentina, fighting it out in the Maracana—the most prestigious ground of their closest rivals—is a storyline that also brings an aura of fate, and at 13-5, La Albiceleste could be worth backing.

Should matters go to extra time, which both teams have already experienced at the competition, Sabella's men could have a slight advantage, although a 120-minute performance in midweek may hurt their stamina.

All in all, though, this is a test of will as much as it is talent, and there is a crop of extremely determined characters in the South American squad that may trump those of their German counterparts.

Prediction: Germany 1-1 Argentina (Argentina win in extra time)

Miroslav Klose isn't the most glamorous of strikers. He's doesn't get the heart racing like Pele, Ronaldo, Gerd Muller or Just Fontaine.

But Klose has scored more World Cup goals than all of them.

He might be 36 years old, but he's shown again and again that he knows how to put the ball in the net.

And in a tight, nervous game, which the World Cup final usually is, that's a wonderful quality to have.

Klose has already made history at this World Cup. But he told the Guardian it's not enough:

"It’s a hugely emotional thing for me but people who know me will realise that my focus is already completely on Argentina, 100 per cent.

Yes, I have overtaken Ronaldo as the best goalscorer but that is something to take on board another day. If we lose the final, my joy as the top scorer will be significantly dampened."

If Lionel Messi puts in a performance against Germany that's anything like his best, it will be remembered as his final.

But if he struggles to have an influence, as he did against Holland in the semi-final, it might be remembered as a missed opportunity to join Diego Maradona and Pele as one of the game's greatest-ever players.

He has played his part in getting Argentina to the final. But they looked toothless in the semi-final as Ron Vlaar and Nigel de Jong kept him quiet.

Can Argentina be the Spain of World Cup 2010? Is Argentina ready to do the Spanish Flamingo now and beat Germany!!!

Argentina fans will be the first to admit that their team has been very far from inspiring in the current World Cup but at the end of the day, they are the ones lining up in the Maracana on Sunday. In 2010, Spain won all of their knockout matches 1-0 but were considered to be one of the best, if not the best, teams in the modern era. Moreover, they lost their first game against Switzerland!

Italy only managed to get three draws in the group stage in 1982 whilst in 1998 France achieved 1-0, 0-0, 1-0 results in the three games before the final against Brazil. Again, hardly the stuff of world beaters but that’s exactly what such teams are now considered to be. World Cup winners…world beaters! Moreover, players like Zinedine Zidane, Didier Deschamps, Paolo Rossi and Marco Tardelli are seen as legends of the game…can Javier Mascherano, Sergio Romero, Pablo Zabaleta and Lionel Messi end up being considered in the same vein? We’ll soon know.

BET ON ARGENTINA TO WIN TO WIN BIG BIG BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"...okay, this is the way to go...first THREE GOALS IN THE FIRST HALF....THE REST JUST STROLL AND PRACTISE FOOTBALL..."

The 2014 FIFA World Cup final between Germany and Argentina should be a fine way to cap what has generally been a thrilling tournament. Matches in Brazil have on the whole been exciting, with plenty of goals and incident to keep fans and pundits talking.

This final has the potential to provide ample amounts of both. Germany could take care of the goals, given their free-scoring exploits throughout the competition.

The squad is brimming with confidence following a 7-1 demolition of hosts Brazil in the semi-final. Players such as forward Thomas Mueller certainly haven't been shy about anticipating victory. Per Reuters UK:

Coach Alejandro Sabella's team has been stout throughout the tournament, having not conceded a single goal during the knockout phase. But Sabella's toughest challenge will be crafting a way to contain Germany's deadly midfield runners.

Will he succeed? Or will he too give up just like the Brazilians??? How to stop THE GERMANS???

German attacking machine is potent - very very potent!

There are many quality players making up Germany's midfield and forward lines. Stars such as Mueller, Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil and Andre Schurrle pose defences a myriad of problems. One of the reasons they are so effective is a strong rapport, one established through the familiarity of having played together so long.

Muller is Germany's leading scorer with five goals at this tournament, but Joachim Low's men are anything but a one-man band.

A further seven Germans have also scored, and the likes of Miroslav Klose, Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil and Andre Schurrle could just as easily prove Maracana match-winners.

Kroos, Ozil and Schurrle have all found the net during this competition. The latter has proved to be a ruthlessly efficient super-sub.
