World Cup 2010 Qualifying Updates

Singapore's Goal 2010 may have been knocked out earlier but won't be not alone. Footballing powers (at least World Cup semi-finalists before) in World Cup 2010 disqualification dangerzone:

Europe Group 1: Sweden, Portugal, Hungary
Europe Group 3: Czech, Poland
Europe Group 5: Turkey, Belgium
Europe Group 6: Croatia
Europe Group 8: Bulgaria
South America: Argentina, Uruguay

Yes, last spot for Asia-Oceania...even draw-draw (over 2 legs) on away goals also can qualify. Of course, clear aggregrate winner sure qualifies. If everything ends up all even after 2 legs, penalty shoot-out winner qualifies.

Hope New Zealand score the first goal in Middle East tonight :D

bro Ramseth,
kumsia for the updates.

Ukraine 1-0 England
Robert Green got sent-off in the 14th minutes.

England saboed Croatia got bigtime. Ukraine's now 1 point ahead of Croatia and their last game is against Andorra. It's practically game over for Croatia with Ukraine surely to get in queue for a place-off place.

Portugal rescue themselves in style with a 3:0 victory over Hungary. With their last game against Malta, they will surely get into the play-off queue. Denmark has qualified by beating Sweden 1:0, meaning it's goodbye to Sweden and Hungary, unless the unimaginable happens.

Germany, Serbia and Italy have qualified. Russia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France and Ireland have their queue tickets for play-off places.

There're 8 European play-off places for 9 2nd best teams in their groups, i.e. 1 of the 9 2nd bests will be out before the play-offs.

In South America, Argentina pulled themselves back from the dead with a 2:1 victory over Peru, keeping themselves back into qualifying position. However, it will be decided in their last game against Uruguay.

In North America, USA and Mexico have qualified. Costa Rica and Honduras are challenging who qualify next and who go to the play-off, the scary possibility of facing Argentina if some results in South America work it out that way.

In Africa, Ghana and Ivory coast have qualified. It's getting real exciting over there in the other undecided groups:
Africa Group A: Cameroon and Gabon in contention.
Africa Group B: Tunisia, Nigeria, Mozambique and Kenya all still in contention.
Africa Group C: Algeria and Egypt in contention.
Africa Group D: Ghana qualified.
Africa Group E: Ivory Coast qualified.

If bahrain fails to qualify,
there will no Middle Eastern Arabs
in the world cup
for the 1st time in a long while.
Osama and gang will not be happy,
don't be surprised if
Mandela's soweto stadiums
get sabotage.

I thought that if Bahrain fail to qualify, all flights from Middle East to South Africa canceled. Safer. :D

N. Korea manager Kim Jong Hun has lead them to qualify for their 1st World Cup since 1966. But apparently, many N. Koreans are still unhappy with his defensive strategy. In same qualifying group as S. Korea who scored 12 goals in 8 games, N. Korea only scored 7 (though both eventually qualified).

Now N. Korea is looking for a new manager, and former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson may be the one. Talks are in progress. N. Korea is looking serious. Qualification for the World Cup is not enough. It looks like they're aiming for at least another quarter-final or better.

Goose choped by Russia already, and Russia haven't really qualified yet. Need to playoff. If Goose and Russia get France or Portugal playoff as opponents, Russia can faint and Goose can fly. N. Korea confirmed qualify already. One-up.

World Cup Debate: Carlos Queiroz's Stubbornness May Cost Portugal South Africa Spot

The time has finally come for the Portuguese fans to praise the Lord and blow out their altar candles, for their national team have actually made it past the group stage on the very last playing day.

It was actually one of the easiest groups Portugal could have asked for, with their seed guaranteeing they would avoid meeting any of Europe's strongest nations on paper.

But that did little in the way of helping the Euro 2004 runners-up in their quest for a spot at the 2010 World Cup, despite it looking a near certainty when the group draw was made.

Under Carlos Queiroz, Portugal have been a total mess. In little over a year, he has called up almost 40 players and used several different tactical approaches, which resulted in his side dropping a number of crucial points along the way. In fact, Portugal seem to have only found their way once Liedson came in, the Brazilian-born striker who helped Queiroz figure out the right tactics he needs to deploy.

After a lengthy period filled with disappointing results, Portugal finally picked themselves up and won their last three qualifying encounters, but questions remain over whether they have actually improved, considering these are modest European outfits.

Portugla failed to defeat Sweden and Denmark, the two sides that were regarded as the only teams that could challenge them for top spot. In fact, their last match with a world-class nation ended in an embarrassing 6-2 defeat at Brazil.

The Portuguese people still have many doubts over Queiroz's real ability to guide the national side. He is regarded as a good coach for the young squads, whom he has won two Football World Youth Championships with, but his methods with the senior squad have raised more questions than answers.

Queiroz's selection stubbornness has also been a hot topic, with the coach insisting on using out-of-form players, such as Raul Meireles and Deco, or players in positions they are not familiar with - for example Pepe as a defensive midfielder, Duda as a left-back, central midfielders almost as wingers and wingers as strikers.

The time for testing is now over. Portugal will now meet one of Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Ireland or Ukraine for a place in the 2010 World Cup. At this point, it is unknown whether or not Queiroz will stick to his own plans or finally start to make some sense in his squad selections. But one thing is for sure; regardless of whom Portugal meet in the play-offs, it does not seem like a good time for their fans to throw away their candles just yet.
