Woman jailed for cheating

<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> AN UNEMPLOYED woman who duped 35 unsuspecting victims into parting with $9,900 for bogus goods posted by her on Internet forums was jailed for 24 months on Tuesday. Ayu Najiha Ang, 34, a single mother of six, committed the offences less than a year after she was released from prison for forgery. She admitted to 16 of 38 charges of cheating between June and August this year. The rest were taken into consideration. Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Jeh Yaw told the court that Ang posted bogus sale threads on five popular Internet forums such as singaporemotherhood.com, flowerpod.com.sg and eBay.com.sg She gave instructions on her postings to her intended victims to contact her via short message service to a designated mobile phone number. She also told them to pay to three POSBank accounts belonging to her and her two children. After the money had been deposited into the bank account, in most instances she would use the ATM card to withdraw and spend the money. She had made partial or full restitution amounting to $990 to nine of the victims. She could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined on each charge.
