Woman jailed 14 months for cheating

A woman who duped colleagues and friends into believing that she needed funds for her brother's heart surgery in Thailand was jailed for 14 months on Thursday.
Ng Lay Har, 41, now a hawker assistant, was working in label and sticker manufacturer Zephyr, in Woodlands Terrace. when she cheated three of her colleagues into giving her between $20,500 and $47,300 in 2010.
She also admitted cheating another victim, a 70-year-old woman, of $20,000 at Admiralty MRT station in September 2009 by using the same ruse.
In all, Ng cheated 15 victims of a total of $138,300. She made restitution of $29,300.
