Woman investigated for false police report on snatch theft

A 26-year-old woman is being investigated for making a false police report, in which she claimed she was the victim of a snatch theft.

Police are investigating against a 26-year-old woman for making a false police report.
She reported that her purse was snatched by an unknown person at the void deck of a HDB block in the vicinity of Hougang Street 52.
On 24 April 2013 at about 10.35pm, the 26 year-old woman called the police, informing that her purse containing cash and valuables with a total value of about $230 had been snatched by an unknown subject.
She claimed that the subject came from her rear and snatched her purse before running away. She also provided specific details pertaining to the subject's description.
Upon receipt of the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive enquiries and follow-up.
Through investigations, it was established that the victim had made a false report. She had lodged such a false report as she was afraid to report the loss of her purse to her family members.
Investigations against the subject are on-going.
Anyone who is convicted for giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
