A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly snatching a 65-year-old woman's gold chain on June 11.
The police said they were alerted to the case of snatch theft along Buffalo Road at 10.37pm. No injuries were reported.
Through ground enquiries and close coordination with the Police Operations Command Centre, officers from Central Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him within an hour of the report.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was also believed to be involved in another case of theft along Kerbau Road on the same day.
The gold chain, valued at around $800, and a handphone were recovered and seized as case exhibits.
The man will be charged in court on June 13 with the offence of criminal force in committing theft of property carried by a person.
If convicted, the man faces a jail term of between one year and seven years, and caning.
The police said they will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
They added: "When confronted with snatch theft, members of the public are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call the police as soon as possible."
