A 34-year-old woman who has earlier admitted to harassing a Straits Times (ST) journalist was fined a total of S$4,000 today, reported The Straits Times.
Freelance interior designer Amy Chua Kwan Ming, who pleaded guilty of harassing Ms Joanne Lee Li Li, 36, on four occasions in 2008 and 2009, was fined for sending insulting and threatening messages via e-mail, voicemail and letter to the journalist.
District Judge Roy Neighbour had called for a probation report to gauge her suitability for rehabilitation when he learned that she was in treatment for schizophrenia, but she told the court she was unwilling to be placed under probation.
Investigations revealed that the two women met sometime in 2003 or 2004, when Ms Chua asked Ms Lee for her autograph.
She started sending letters and email to Ms Lee in 2008. She would send two to three email messages a day, with love confessions, and accusations that Ms Lee was betraying her love.
In one message, she claimed that she was Ms Lee's "husband" of 10 years, and that they had a child together. She also threatened to hire a private investigator to check on Ms Lee in another message.
Ms Lee reported the matter to the police after the messages turned more aggressive.
