The last strategy on earth to adopt is the one that NZ and OZ have opted for because trying to achieve zero Covid forever is sheer lunacy. It simply isn't a viable long term solution.
The rest of the world is moving on. While vaccines don't eliminate transmission they have most definitely have brought the IFR down to a point where it is LOWER than an average flu year.
On the assumption that deaths and serious cases can be kept at bay the pragmatic way forward is most certainly to open borders and businesses as no country can exist as an eternal hermit kingdom like North Korea without also plummeting towards a similar standard of living that North Koreans have to endure.
NZ and OZ have painted themselves into a corner and their governments don't have a clue how to extricate themselves from their self inflicted imprisonment. International businesses cannot function normally, tourism is dead, the national airline is on life support, fruit is rotting on the trees and hospitality is rapidly going downhill.
Sinkies should thank their lucky stars that when it comes to remedial action for Covid they have an efficacious government that can strategize for the long haul.
