yes maybe the process is not automatic. he has to key the numbers himself manually, therefore when he is online and see you donate money, might give you 1000 points.

Besides, this a optional donation drive and there were no official statement or pre-agreement from the host about "rewards" in your email or during payment processing, so it is a gift/token for donors and u can't complain should he decides to remove them. :p
