Why writers to ST Forum need not now use full name?

I come across writers to ST Forum with names like David Tan and Jenny Lim. Even the people from government departments giving official replies do not provide their full names. It used to be a requirement in the past, I think. When we fill up all kinds of application forms, we have to put our full name, right? And if you look at the obituaries page, they also got give full names ma! So why ST Forum page so special?
