At that time, there was no site that allowed disparaging comments to be carried on a continous basis. ST also a played a part in highlighting scoops that was first raised in this form. It alsonthe emigration folder which was taboo then.

Now you have TRE, TOC, Kent Ridge Commons etc. The strength of this site is it's known anonymity. It is unlikely to attract the masses who think the serious stuff cannot be discussed without the identity known. Anyway, anything confidential and important to the country is likely to originate from this site.

Just look at the recent GE. Add up the scoops and you know what I mean. Of course blurfucks will ask for stat declaration witnessed by 2 persons before they believe anything.

There is definitely a lack of visibility of this site in Singapore. I believe in the heydays of this forum most Singaporean above the age of 18 would have know about this site. Ask most people on the streets now and none would have known about this. They go to sites like stomper I suppose. I asked a few casual acquaintance over the net if they know about SBF, and they just replied what is that? I suppose marketing is needed if you want to boost the viewership. How about someone start printing out small poster with just www.sammyboy.com on it with no graphics or banners and start pasting on billboards all over Singapore?

I think you are right. The gov't has been trying to co-opt the influence of sites like SBF with thosesites under their control e.g. HWZ, STOMP,....

There's of course alot of new competition out there competing for the same eyeballs

I was thinking the same lately that things were going haywire. Threads posted in wrong section, no mods to move them to the correct section, stops and starts that pissed regular visitors and lots of inconsequential threads about nothing of relevance.

Many threads with zero responses, should be removed after 2 weeks.

Like the Malaysia Cup, the excitement and fever died when Singapore was taken out. To revive the interest most probably doomed to failure after 17 years. This site was down a few times too. People move on when these things happened not helped by owner who cared less. In fact encouraging those who complained to take their business elsewhere. Complainers are those members who cares about the forum and yet they were told to fly kite if they do not like it.

If this site goes down a fw more times there will be less and less viewers and less contributors that makes this place interesting. Who wants to visit a ghost town?

My take is as follows.
While this forum exists and is operating, let's try to make it as interesting and humerous as possible. Post interesting things, post whenever u can, make the discussions interesting by bringing in information, new ideas, unusual perspectives, humour, etc.

If the forum fails due to database errors or intermittent problems during upgrading or other issues, just take a break and go and have a kit kat or visit another forum or website.
If the forum fails to exist one day, just move on to another forum or spend more time on our real lives.

No need to get so worried or keep harping over the same thing. :o
