</TR><!-- headline one : end --><!-- show image if available --></TBODY></TABLE>

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to last Tuesday's report, ''Camwhoring' puts more teens at risk of exposure'.
Disappointing as it is to see that young girls are uploading sleazy photos of themselves onto social networking websites, it is not wise simply to advise them not to take such photos and leave it at that.
Popular culture today has become littered with bad influences, and the notion that sex sells. Add to that the popularity and ease of use of the Internet, and you will end up with photos of youth striking sexy poses.
Few realise their photos could end up anywhere. But even that realisation does not stop them from uploading such photos, because they want to impress their peers.
To prevent a repeat of what happened to the National University of Singapore undergraduate, whose explicit photos were posted online, what is needed is for youth to be better educated on the possible consequences of posting incriminating photos of themselves online.
Teaching teens how to safeguard their photos and show them to friends without the risk of them being obtained by individuals with malicious intentions will work better than telling them not to take such photos at all.
Most youthful mistakes do not amount to much, but with the Internet, the mistakes of today's youth could haunt them for a long time.
