MOE just released the national exam results based on the different ethnic groups. Overall the results have been excellent with 97.7% passing PSLE, 94.7% passing GCE O and 87.1% passing GCE A level.
Singapore generally has done well in local or international exams compared with other countries. However, one ethnic group consistently does higher than the others. Anyone wise-guys or street-smart guys here have ideas or opinions why one group scores consistently better than the others, or why one group scores consistently lower than the others?
What are the possible causes : Language? Economic? Attitude? Religious? Genetic? Historical? Social?
PSLE GCE O GCE A
Malay 93.3 86.6 76.4
Chinese 99.0 96.5 88.1
Indian 96.2 91.3 82.2
Difference (-6.3) (- 9.9) (-11.7)
As the absolute number between the different groups is large, it means that the number of people is also large.
