Why can’t Singapore just follow the American wage model?

lol please....poverty is in every country,u can never fully eliminate it because life is unpredictable, circumstances uncontrollable and people fall thru the cracks and even the webs of social security, but if ur poor in australia there is a good reason, mental illness, substance addictions, family circumstances.....or ur a aborigine monkey.circumstances prevents them from living normal lives and being productive human beings.

in singapore poverty is widespread,u can see it,u can sense it,some say u can even smell it.even those who are healthy and able bodied and slog long hours everyday.they have the look of a peasant,a coolie, people who are used to tiring hard labour for a pittance and a face etched by years of hardship and poverty,in my months in australia iv never seen such things, except for the homeless.

according to CPF board 35% of singaporeans earn less than $1500 pm and 20% earn less than $1000 pm.say the working population is about 2 mil thats a whopping 750k and 400k sinkies respectively.the working poor.

Yeah a fantastic minimum wage and look at the result..

Peesai can't follow the yankee way because too few people smoke pot. In the US, you can make a decent living selling pot if you're poor because there is a large number of pot smokers (working class adults who generously fork out 50 to a 100 bucks or more for a bag each time to party with buddies). Too bad legalisation might rob this opportunity from the poor and give the sales to large corporations instead.

Cheers!
