Why open our borders when hospital beds "could fill up in a week if a COVID-19 cluster grows uncontrollably" and WFH is the default arrangement?

Singapore aims to start quarantine-free travel by September

SINGAPORE, July 26 (Reuters) - Singapore is looking to allow quarantine-free travel for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 from September, when 80% of the city-state's population should be inoculated, the government said on Monday. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-...lation-be-fully-vaccinated-by-sept-2021-07-26

Hospital beds could fill up in a week if a COVID-19 cluster grows 'uncontrollably': Ong Ye Kung

"The odds of a large surge in cases are stacked against us: We knew that when a cluster grows uncontrollably, infection numbers would double every seven to 10 days, which meant that hospital beds could fill up in a week. Beyond that, we could be overwhelmed," Mr Ong said. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/new...apacity-cluster-grows-uncontrollably-15317128

Lockdown the country but sloppy border controls.LPPL...

Why are we opening our borders to the world when our hospital beds "could fill up in a week if a COVID-19 cluster grows uncontrollably"

What a profound statement...takes a $m minister to figure that out ?????

Hospital beds that are empty are wasted so being filled up is a good thing. It means that medical resources are not being under utilised.

Our borders not opened then how the infected Ah Nehs come in ?

It doesn't matter if the beds are (hypothetically) filled up in a week, what matters is how quickly those beds are emptied.

How and why are those beds emptied, I leave it to your imagination.

Use army camps first.
My colleagues sent the supplies to army camp.
Noted that those that needed oxygen supplement, about 53% are non-vaccinated and about 47% had at least one dose.

Not very significant in terms of raw figures, 1.5 million folks can potentially overwhelm our hospitals easily. Hawker centre clusters managed to ring fence already or not? putting up those orange construction net around market place and hawker centres don’t really stop viruses from entering or exiting leh.

Many in this unvaccinated group are not local-cases.

Some are travellers who got covided in home country became more sick in Singapore, or rich people who booked private jets to come here to seek medical help. Our MFA also flew covided civil servants or stat board staff based overseas back for hospitalization.

Filippinos alone accounted for about 10% of COVID hospitalization cases in Singapore.

20% beds available doesn't include the corridor and carpark space, which can put more beds, so no worry if there is 3rd wave or 4th wave whatever wave

When Singapore had tens of thousands of cases and no vaccines the hospitals were not overloaded.

There is therefore no need whatsoever to be concerned now that more than 50% of the population are vaccinated and we also know that the virus is no worse than the flu.

Boss,
the tens of thousands are cumulative figures, we hit a high of over 1.5K cases per day then dropped to average of sub-500 for months.
after the dorm cases episode, we were relatively unscathed in a way.

Yes and I'm saying that at the height of the "pandemic" there was absolutely no issue with hospital capacity prior to vaccines being developed so there is absolutely no reason why there should be any problems now.

Just remove all masks, open up and go back to the good old days. The consequences will be minimal and no worse than a bad flu year.

At the height of our COVID wave, it’s considered a very small crest, if it were in 5 digits, we’ll collapse.
