Why are beer drinkers Louder than the rest ..

WhiLe whiskey or brandy kakis are sLowLy enjoying & taking their intermitten sips; most beer guzzLers are the LikeLy ones who are creating the scenes..not that their aLcohoLs' contents are higher than the whiskey/brandy drinkers.Somehow i just can't connect to this phenomena..

That's because beer is a more social drink, its meant to be drunk as a group. Beer drinkers are rowdy and vulgar because they are playing into that social role.

I note wine drinkers are always very quiet. They never steal the limelight.

Agree with you. Beer drinkers are usually more rowdy than whiskey/brandy drinkers. No idea why this is so.

Hard liquor drinkers drink for themselves. It is an anti-social drink.

Beer drinkers drink as a group. It is a social drink. That's the difference.

Liquor or beer can make a reticent person talkative. Many a secret was exposed through drinks.

That was our generaL consensus when i was discussing with my neighbours at our Lobby's pub Lastnite too..;)

uncles and aunties who have abusive drinking behaviors will all lose themselves, civility and be loud and rowdy, despite the type of drinks. but generally, the rate of alcohol consumption contributes to the loss of one's inhibition.

in my social circles, we start the evening young and "drink up" by going thru' the progression of cocktails, beer, champagne with hors d'oeuvres then to white wine when seated and appetizers are served, then to reds (or whites) depending on the meat or entrees, and finally to hard liquor after coffee and desserts.

the occasion, ambience and setting also play a role.

the loudest period is the beginning due to the social open ambience where one has to raise hisher voice over the noise level to be heard. but i observe over 2 decades that beer drinkers are loudest even though they are ladies and gentlemen of high repute, great wealth and marvelous intellect. cocktail drinkers are gossipy, playful but softer as they tend to whisper more. same with champagne or sparkling wine drinkers. they sip, not gulp like beer drinkers. beer drinkers would go thru' two bottles or a few pints before dinner is served. meanwhile, cocktail and champagne drinkers would still have their martini glasses and champagne flutes in hand.

when the same beer drinkers switch to cocktails and champagne on other occasions, their noise level would drop even among same social circles and same settings. the cocktail drinkers who switch to beer for their starting drinks would get louder after 2 pints. it's an interesting role reversal. but all of us will be subdued by the time we hit the cognac glasses.

the fact is between europe and america, not sure about sg, many drink across beverage types, sometimes on the same night. no such thing as one strata of society drinks only beer, and another drinks only wine. perhaps only in sg. :p

yes, the social setting plays a huge role. in my parties, i prefer all my buddies drink beer to start off the evening. when everyone drinks beer, we go thru' gallons quickly and are more loosey goosey. we open up more, and that's where usually ladies start to spill their souls first. :p i would hide the cocktail mixes and champagnes on the next party. "hey guys, sorry, we only have beer tonight." :D

lianbeng noted that alcohol numbs all inhibitions so drinkers tend to talk out loud coz 酒后吐真言 mah! so if u want to hear people speak the truth, make them drunk!:D wine drinkers are usually more humble coz they sip bit by bit but beer drinkers tend to go by the jug!

Good discourse on alcoholic daze -and interesting observation on reverse decibel levels with pints <> fermented grape juice and spirits. Imo, it's social (and maybe cultural) setings. With europeans, a pint (or 2) is also a social rigueur before main evening meal. Then joy (oops I mean grape) juice takes over.. with cigars + cognac (even grappa for some) after. Of course, if it's pints with the boys at the local -this tends to be boisterous, between making lewd jokes at bar maid's cleavage and footy screen.

Inhibitions loosen up, with sleeves. And rest it's down to your physical and personality make up. I know 1 dutchie gets "cranky" with scotch, so he sticks to rum. The mind (and liver) boggles:p And the monks who "invented" wine never knew the true potential;)

However, alcoholics here better beware. Take note the following:-

1. always eat full meals and don't substitute alcohol as your meal
2. come up with an exercise regime
3. take vitamin pills and liver protecting pill everyday

Cheers !!

pints on an empty tummy contribute to rapid absorption, per equalisation's advice, and quickly render alcohol into the bloodstream. if the tummy is lined with butter or lard, effects will be different. this may explain why when wine is served with food, the higher alcoholic content is nullified leading to pompous pretentiousness as opposed to beer served pre-dinner on a growling hungry stomach leading to primal animalism. :p *roar*

me love cognac. :o

So long no *up-roar*. Your 1st love Cognac? Never quite understand locals dilute their cognac with either warm or cold h20. Watered down, and my drunkard bro-in-law tries to get his cronies speed up on their glasses by saying "oi, still got gold fish in yours?". To each his own, though you are supposed to swirl your brandy bulb glass abit and smell the aroma before imbibing?:p

On topic of poisons, ever tried scandinavian aquavit? Dynamite:o

Beer is a drink you chug - not sip. A drink for revellers. For partying. Not meant to be quiet. Don't know about others, but beer makes me sing and dance better. Anyways, I do not dig the hard liquors and the burning sensation they bring, gimme a beer - anytime.

Cheers!

Any champs out there..why is it ..it is easier to glup one jug of beer in quick time than to finish a jug of plain water...

I have seen a lady beat a man hands down on this.. They arm-locked and she finishes the jug of beer faster than the guy struggling with the jug of water...

Is it becos the the taste and flavour..??

was introduced to cognac at the young tender age of 10. eversince, a whiff of cognac, and i'm awake. but i now drink it post-dinner deliberately, small amounts, concentrated with no adulteration.

never tried akvavit. but it reminds me of chasing a shot of tequila down with beer. very dangerous undertaking. :p
