There has been a confusing set of messages coming out from WP on the salary issue. It also differs materially from the WP comments from the release of the report from the Committee.

What Vikram was doing is the classic act of giving GG enough rope to hang himself. Vikram must have sensed the confusion and decided to ask some exploratory questions. I am not blaming GG but I suspect that WP must have got caught by prior proposal raised before GE2011 and have been modifying it since GG and CSM came on board.

These are the occasional hazards of politics in parliament and people like GG and CSM will learn from it. I recall JBJ getting hung by WKS of all people over teleco charges in a similar manner. WKS sensed that JBj had not done his homework and was not sure what the actual line should be and began questioning him.

Everybody seems to get smoked by PAP. It was PAP who shifted position first by appointing the salary review committee, not WP or any other opposition party. They have to shift position accordingly too. Why don't you ask first, why PAP shifted position and initiated the review?

One can be the better speaker making the other look confused and lost. To a neutral third party or his fan, VN is the clear winner. To supporters of opposition, it is just another display of craftiness and overbearing behaviour.

Is VK's delivery an achievement? If it is to make himself look great so as to impress his bosses or to make GG look bad, he scored A*. If it is to clarify an ambiguity, then it is F9, as he intentionally confused GG. If it is to sell the idea that WP share the committee's idea, it is again F9 because his body language betrayed his sincerity.

A simple question by the MP can drawn responses from different perspectives. Sadly, I think they are mostly concerned with the first one i.e. to make himself look good and to impress - at the expense of others.

To clarify: this is not VN's first high-profile encounter with WP. In the last instance, I noticed some rather unsavoury thought patterns of his ("So Pritam, did you have to do this too? THIS?
