haha one million doesn't go very far in singapore, not when for 40years, i lived with the utmost grace of my father in about 25000sq feet , and now in a box 60 times smaller

25,000sq ft? Which area, sis?

if you had one million, which country would you choose to live in?

1. money to be used to buy a flat/house
(unless rental so cheap that can rent for the next 30 years)

cannot spend more than 300k on house... as need the money to live on

and what about visa issues?

so any ideas on which country, with the exception of malaysia

Probably Taiwan or Thailand in that case. Thailand is pretty good especially the Chiangrai areas, one of the places i have seriously looked at.

Pls lah, tell me what's so complicated about buying a one-way ticket out of Sinking land? I have did it, thousands or several hundred thousands has did it and many more thousands will do it.

Typical Sinkee Kia Su and Kia See attitude, must wait for everything laid out nicely, then runroad. Luckily, I don't have this kind of attitude, else think now I cleaning tables at hawker centres liaoz.

In 1981, I bought a one-way ticket, via PANAM (no longer in business), Singapore, Hong Kong, San Francisco, then Air Canada to Toronto.
All I had with me were 2 suit cases (three suits, ten shirts made by my sister, 2 pairs of leather shoes from England) and $1,500.00.
You can do it, when you have $1 million.

1981? My upmost respect. You belong to the "Make things happen and not wait for things to happen" group.

I am sure the journey from 1981 till now must have been very fulfilling.

Thank you for your generous compliments.
May be I was young and foolish, having completed more than 40 days of reservist training that year (had to sign a waiver, as it was more than the legal 40 days per year, because I did my reservist trg and completed an Advanced Officers Course). Graduated that year and worked for a few months in SG.
My strategy at that time was that I had nothing to lose, work a year there (or should I say here, as I have been here ever since), travel and/or hitch hike, may be study and seek additional qualifications (which I did). Fortunately, the firm hired me after the initial first year.
Perhaps, the major loss is financial, because I did not earn BIG $$ compared to my classmates, and did not participate in the very significant real estate boom in SG.
Overall, I believe that the work experience and exposure to big complicated files, culture and lifestyle, as well as learning a little of the numerous European languages are intangible benefits.

Then living in a 400 sqft apartment now should teach you some humility and learn that many others get pass without ever seeing $100,000 in their bank accounts.

It all depends on how you want to spend that $1m. If you blow it all away on a diamond encrusted dildo, then you're fucked. If you spend it wisely, even in Singapore, you may not need to ever work again. I wonder why we bothered to reply you if your attitude is that you want to live like a princess.

I am eying for a Chiangmai house now. Brand new in a cluster housing estate complete with all condo facilities and security is only 4-5mil baht and I am talking about 80 sqwa (320sqm) of land and 200sqm build in. You can do this by coming here try to set up a small business and use the business to buy your landed house.

humility i have plenty but no point talking to people like you who believe in the superiority of money, what i don't have is to be SERVILE and SUBMITTING to those with money
no body is humble except you guys, because "you can afford it"...
i ve also been called a wastrel, but for those with the superiority of money, when they waste, its ok, they "can afford it"
as for living like a princess, wow, how are you related to the tan/ chia side of the 202 lornie road family???

as for living like a princess,i don't dream to buy a 6-10million house, with maids, so that i can wayang in front of others, while at the same time scolding those with a lot less than me for doing nothing right

does the business actaully have to be operational? or can be dormant? the way people do when they want to buy a company van here?

Without any knowledge of the legislation in Thailand, based on my experience with income taxes in the True North, Strong and Free, even if the corporation is a facade for other matters, it would be reasonable and logical to have an active business, no matter how minor, to make use of all the benefits.

'People like us who believe in the superiority of money' because 'we can afford it'?! You are so fucking delusional, you psychotic piece of shit. We can afford ??!!

Do you have any fucking idea how many of us have to slog through life just to make a decent living? My parents left me nothing and I have to sign bonds to put myself through school (and I don't mean university). I am doing reasonably well, thank you, but I do not have $1m in my bank account. I wish I have. I would fucking retire straight away.

I'm telling you that $1m can do wonders if you live reasonably and you fucking tell me "$1m doesn't go very far" and not when you "used to live in a 25,000 sqft home". And you want to fucking lecture me that about being humble??!

You cannot even argue coherently with your twisted logic and you automatically associate anyone who disagree with you to your fucking retarded relatives. You dare say there no point talking to people who are trying advise you, you fucking twit?

Uncle Charlie,

Well said! Long time ago, someone told me this:

"there is no right or wrong decision, only good, bad or no decision."

If one make a decision when required, outcome is either good or bad (chance =50-50). If no decison made, then there's no outcome (chance = zero).

Have a nice day!
