which country?

I would gladly be stateless for a million dollars. Patriotism, national sovereignty is all bollocks to me.

I'll live on a yacht.

the yacht will probbaly cost more than a million dollars........................... :D

so any ideas on which country, with the exception of malaysia

If u still don't mind sg as a place to live, u can buy the cheapest possible flat, save/invest wisely the rest and continue to work at your restuarant or wherever suits you, to pay for your daily living expenses.

Live simply, do the things u like, pursue the interests and causes u feel are worth it, try to have peace of mind, and don't bother about people who annoy u or whom u dislike. Life can be tough, but we can be resilient too and even enjoy it a little.

oh that bad eh?....:(

interest rates are at historical lows. no point putting cash in bank or cd's. better to invest it in real estate or stocks. however, real estate will hold cash hostage for the long term without prospect of flipping quickly and earning a respectable profit. stocks are tricky and have potential for disaster if played at the individual level. moreover, there's high short term capital gains tax exposure. the best returns today for personal wealth management are with reputable hedge fund managers. my colleagues and peers are achieving an average of 7% p.a. in recent and current turbulent periods year to year. anyone who claims better than 7% is most likely a ponzi schemer. 5% rate of return before tax on a principal of usd2m is good enough for retirement, i.e. after debts and mortgages are paid off. the same roi for sgd1m should be ok for frugal wendy, but her expenses will be higher as she has to pay rent, loan on car, health care insurance (established residents who have worked for decades are covered by medicare), and other costs associated with a newcomer. unfortunately, no reputable or successful hedge fund manager will touch a cash portfolio of only sgd1m. it's too small a sum to attract legit players. scammers and fraudsters on the other hand will love to meet her.

there got 4D and ToTo to buy boh?

megamillion and super lottery. megamillion combines lotteries in over 30 states, and usual jackpot is around usd30m with high of >usd200m. super lotto averages usd10m per jackpot.

a seafaring san francisco yacht is selling for usd120k on craigslist.

go for a custom hand build bugis perahu instead, better quality & more ship shape, easier to repair in long run & like anything wooden, it ages beautifully!

look under saf yacht club, safyc.org.sg, for marina berthing charges. you get a choice of changi or sembawang clubhouses and berths. first come first serve if you're local resident. there are daily, weekly or monthly fees if you're visiting.

i would recommend a 50' houseboat to wendy. it's not like she can sail the world solo in a sailboat. houseboats are for local waters. slow, safe but comfortable. and after the initial excitement, the small cabin space in a small sailing yacht is not very livable over the long term. with a two-deck luxury houseboat, one can cook in the gourmet kitchen, entertain friends and sbf bros in the sprawling main deck, watch big screen tv in the aft deck, sleep in a sizable stateroom cabin with queen size bed, allow friends to sleep in an adjoining stateroom and two more sleeping cabins at the upper deck. to top it off, there's a jacuzzi on the upper deck, bbq and sun area on the same deck aft, lounge area and bridge on the upper fore deck. wendy will have many suitors and freeloaders waiting at the pier.

a pre-owned 80's stardust or sumerset waterhouse 60-footer is selling from usd69k to 79k, while a newer 98 lakeview 60-footer goes from usd99k to 110k. the newer and longer 2000 lakeview at 64' costs around usd139k to 149k. i would recommend the 1996 88' lakeview. it's bigger, better equipped and costs about the same as a 2000 80' horizon at around usd179k. horizon houseboats are typically more expensive.

The northern empire of Chiang Mai would be ideal.
Seafood would be a luxury though.

why not use the money to generate more money and stay in any country while you are getting passive income.
