Where to find cheap, honest durian sellers?

There are no "honest" durain sellers.



Durain 101:

1. Hold the durain and smell. View attachment 8569 as shown in the pic. If you smell green vegetation smell means its not ripe yet. If you smell a mild durain smell instead
means its ripe and ready to be eaten.
2. Hold the durain with 2 hands and shake. (shake the durain & NOT your body ahahaahha ..! )
If you feel nothing means its too wet and sticky meaning either its too ripe or not ripe for eating yet. If you feel balls shaking inside means its loose and not sticky that's the one you want !!
3. Don't take broken & rotten ones, its common sense.

Durian 101:

4 Never accept durians chosen by seller. He is bound to pass you at least one that is one side rotten, too ripe or unripe, so that he can get rid of the unsaleable ones quick. You chose yourself, even if it means you take your chances.
2 Especially never chose or accept one that is not rounded, but with a dimple somewhere on the fruit. When you open the durian up, the dimple is basically empty, even as much as half the fruit. Many times too, durian seller will pass you such items. I always chose those that are as rounded as possible, meaning, all segments of the fruit contain durians.

Mandai forest near the zoo. Pick from the ground. It's free.

Why travel so far? Onraet Rd, at the back of WRDC, strongly recommended. I ate many, many previously. Near cemetery somemore. Nice environment.

just go to chinatown...there is a store opposite the famous porridge kopishop...the durians there are good...

Open air carpark in Johor Jaya. I always go in the morning, don't know if they open at night.

It is a myth, either they play hanky panky with the weighing scales..or some play hanky panky with the "fruits", one famous out of favor, 'durian seller' will attest to this! ha ha ha

Best to buy those already packed with price listed. No arguments needed. I always get 'invited' to buy the more ex ones after choosing the cheaper ones. Always tell them I don't know how to appreciate durians. Was once with a PRC gal. Die die wanted to eat the most ex type of durians. I told her she won't know the difference between the best and the average.

That "combat durian" in Balestier super expensive. It basically Mao Shan wang and I paid something like $18/KG.. Now I totally don't buy in sinkieland but in JB. Cheapest MSW I got was Rm13/kg last month.

At least 3 stalls there - outside temple, outside 7-11. outside Balestier Point.

As long as he is noticed, received attention, he doesn't bother whether he is labelled cheap and/or honest.

Cheapest I noticed are those 3 packets for $10. Why throw durians bro? Furnitures more challenging.

Been there and pick up some myself. Some guys can get as any as 50 or more but not all are good.
