It is understandable that US is provoking Russia with the Ukraine issue to reinforce the relevance of NATO and prevent the Europeans from cooperating with Russia. However, such a tactic is not without risk.

In the event that Russia either directly strikes Ukraine or takes further action to split Eastern Ukraine away and this is not met with any convincing force from the US to "protect" Ukraine, the confidence of all its dependent states across the world will be further eroded. The horrible track record is already scaring all its traditional allies and that includes Singapore as well.
