Prawn paste. Knn, almost all the foodcourt and coffeeshop stalls nowadays think laksa is compete how spicy and hot the gravy is. It is not the spicy level! It is the prawn paste!

Laksa with almost no prawn paste taste like assam water! Might as well eat mee siam! How come laksa become so lousy nowaday!

never heard of prawn paste being added to laksa, unless you are referring to penang laksa.

You mean it becomes Mee Siam with Hum? That is someone's specialty.

Is it true that Laksa taste better with spoon?
IMO, Laksa will taste good or bad because of the ingredients inside the bowl, not the utensils. Don't the hawkers think we are fools?

For some stalls that insisted on serving with spoon and no chopsticks at all, somehow I get the feelings that they want to save on the disposable chopsticks / too lazy to wash chopsticks thus they think of a bullshit reasons to tell us that eat Laksa with spoon taste better.

I believe that's the Katong Laksa only. Supposedly short noodles, better to scoop with spoons.

I think he meant dried prawns pounded into paste. Which I agree is the key ingredient to Laksa! Without it and laksa leaf, it would not do for me.

I also eat my cup noodles with spoons and I find them tasty.

Sort of remembered prawn paste in my childhood days.. anyone knows the reason why it's not an ingredient now?

You mean balachan ? Or the one use for Rojak? Yes the former can be added to it in small quantities to spice up the flavour.

Remember as "hei gor" or something. Not sure it was an ingredient in laksa. Just questioning if it was, as TS had mentioned, any reason why not now?

You all should try laksa prepared by PRC.

Tried mee siam prepared by them.. the stall at Downtown East.

I might as well added bee hoon and chilli oil to water myself

Yes, hei gor refer to the black paste for Rojak. No idea it can use to put in Laksa. But you never know.;)

That's not prawn paste! Prawn paste is the black paste used in Chinese rojak!
