Wage proposal poses challenges: Teo Ser Luck
By Monica Kotwani | Posted: 14 April 2012 1746 hrs

SINGAPORE: Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Teo Ser Luck, said the debate on wage restructuring has been "healthy and constructive" but added the proposal by ex-National Wages Council Chief, Professor Lim Chong Yah, poses some challenges.

Mr Teo, who is also Mayor of North East District, said this on the sidelines of a community event on Saturday.

Mr Teo said: "From the business perspective, it's not just productivity increase that we need, we need the economy to do well so that revenue can go up. When revenue goes up, you can better afford higher pay for the lower-income. It's not just the one aspect of just increasing the low-income earner's salary, it's actually an overall aspect of whether the economy is doing well, whether you get the demand for your services and products, whether your revenue would increase, whether you can meet the bottom-line that you've set for yourself.

"If you just go outright, intervene, and increase the income of the lower-wage workers, what will happen is that when you increase the cost of operations for businesses, it will eat into the margin. For SMEs, that's not easy thing to do, because their margin's already very thin. If they're suppliers of services, that margin could be wiped out just like that."

Mr Teo added that the debate on wage restructuring also serves to create an awareness among the public on the challenges faced in coming up with and implementing policies.

he where got lan chiao? he got no lampar too.
if he follows lim chong yah, he may lose his million dollar salary if things screw up.
so as all typical pappies, no risk taking to preserve yourself lah..wats new!

7th Month Auctioner is telling Sinkies on behalf of Zorro Lim that they are not working cheaper, faster and opening their arses wider to earn money for the Singapore Country Club Inc Mangement Commitee. More sacrifies are needed says Snowball. LOL

Wage increase for workers is a taboo subject for these heineous Bastard Scums from the PAP... As expected, all these Scums In Whites are singing from the same tune..Pinky will be the next to open his cheebye mouth to offer his views on this wage restructuring debate.. After all the noises from these Pappies Scums, there'll still be no wage increase for Sinkie peasants because the Pappies Bastards would stick to their usual mantra that ''wage increase for Sinkie workers can cause an inflation in Spore..'' KNNBCCB PAP..:oIo:  :oIo:

If you go out, take an umbrella just in case it rains.
If it rains, open the umbrella.
If you reach shelter, close the umbrella.

Paid millions S$ . This is what we get .
Those who know are keeping quiet.
Those who dont know have to say
something ( as good as saying nothing)
Something wrong with this land . One Big iMh !!!

I still remember snubbing this useless fucker years ago when he offered me a handshake during one of his walkabouts. I'll never forget the embarrassed looks on the faces of the Paul Lampards with him that day.

Wage increments for Sinkie peasants had always been a taboo subject. Repeated calls for a minimum wage law have been shot down for the flimsiest of reasons. Never mind if Hong Kong has already implemented it and is doing perfectly fine. "Because Singapore is special." Yeah, as special as Singapore's so-called 'democracy'.

Wage increments for ministars and the horde of civil serpents, on the other hand, are never a taboo subject. Never mind if civil service contributes nothing tangible to the real value of an economy, and it is absurd that such a small country requires such a huge government sector.

They are showing the old man that they have the 'political will' to do unpopular things. The more 'political will' one has the better the chance for promotion mah.

Jeebyekia Sir Fuck what the fuck he know about business when he said "from the business perspective" fucking laokwee this fucker and his fellow cronies. Isn't it fucking obvious if you increase salaries businesses margin drop? Why is he talking about the obvious? Why is he not saying increase salary so that workers got more money to spend and the government can collect more taxes and we will use these taxes to help the SMEs? FUCKTARD this simple logic also cannot come up what the fuck your mother send you to school for?

This month 300 baht per day minimum wage will become law and we all shit in our pants? The government had convinced us that it will be good for the economy and we all fall in to support because this government gave a very good reason to do so. And this we consider pro-business. Fuck the no idea PAP.

Translate? Very simple. The rich must be allowed to get richer by suppressing the poor to get poorer.

One simple example. Ministerial pay up to S$2,000,000, why? Attract better talents. Clerical pay down to S$1,000 to remain competitive. This isn't only legitimised corruption, this is legitimised slavery. Friends, check it up and weep. Slaves in 1700s and 1800s lived better than many of our elders and poorers do.

sf is considering increasing the minimum wage again. she has the highest minimum wage in the country, if not the world. city is run by a combination of leftist liberals and morons. if it happens again, businesses are considering moving out of sf and into neighboring alameda, san mateo and santa clara counties. if fact, it's already happening. the city is trashy and filled with homeless bums and those constantly asking for handouts. the more homeless bums move into sf, more commies and soft hearted social liberals are elected as city officials. and the cycle continues until the whole place is dominated by losers. the business friendly atmosphere has literally evaporated. sad but true.

One can easily tell he has does not possess any business sense or experience running a business. Any self-respecting businessman knows he is in business to make as much profits as he can. Which businessman will want to increase workers' pay willingly? When business is good and profits increases, he has many options to consider, i.e., plough it back into the business, increase his own salary, buy a better car for himself, buy more equipment to increase production, employ more workers or give his workers a bonus. Increasing workers' pay is only an option, not mandatory.

The reasoning for the government's initiative is to push for a higher salary for low-paying jobs, thus making the option to bring in more foreign labour a non-starter. This will encourage the businesses to find ways and means to increase productivity and lay off excess workers to reduce their bottomline enabling them to pay off the now more higher paid workers.

Whether the economy is doing well does not necessarily mean every business in the country is also doing well. Certain businesses may not be doing well whilst others may see a windfall. So what he is saying is utter nonsense.

Again we can see he is talking nonsense. As per my comments above, no one said to increase the income of the lower-wage workers by outright intervention. It is a very gradual process for a drastic policy and the stage must be set in order for it to happen. For example, a business that relies mainly on foreign workers in order to conduct it's operations simply cannot survive. These companies should move into other countries where labour cost is cheap. Singapore should not allow such businesses to thrive as that for they don't employ enough Singaporeans. There are a few government agencies for example, Spring Singapore that provide incentives to companies to enable them to innovate and improve productivity.

No one should expect the government to hastily implement and intervene by imposing a new wage increase policy. It has to be formulated and implement in stages. What this minister is saying is rubbish and he should be ostracise for being stupid.

he had to dumb down for daft sinkies. otherwise, it's too complicated and complex for the one-cell brains of sinkies. the one cell is on and off depending on what to eat, what to drink and where to have sex.
