Chitchat What is wrong with this SPH News Article on NZ accident couple ?

The topic of interest is the couple, not the details of their childhood friends. Even the title got Childhood friend. Its poor and lazy journalism. So instead of finding out when they left, the trip duration and if they have done this in the past etc, they fill up the story with how one of his friend was his classmate since primary 3 and the other from sec one to four. And I bet all done by the phone and looking at LinkedIn. This is what happens when you have a monopoly and no competition.

Are you with ST ? Some changes were done to the article before going to the press last night.

Hard to believe at one time the ST had better writers and articles than even some of the big city (not New York or LA or SFO obviously) newspapers in the US. ST is crap they these days. I read it sometimes but I do not buy SPH except the occasional Business Times. For good journalism I go to the Guardian in UK and NYT.

I watch Fox News. Tells me all I need to know. Thing about news is not what was said but who says it. It is a people business and still they dun get it.

They really had good journalists way back then, before the 'white lightning tai chi group' slowly infiltrated it & put their own in. These people are paid to do the jobs, qualified but...are just 'puppets' who are writing on behalf of 'invisible writers'. Like I had mentioned, they used to have this film reviewer a Caucasian Lady, I forgot the name...Mc...something, who writes film reviews 'just as good' as Leonard Matlin, I was a fan of hers & there were gret editorial pieces by the journalists...many of which have 'faded into other countries'.. even sports writers, there were good ones...I use to read the horse racing commentary , just for the fun of it & learnt a lot of racing terms etc...though I never had gone to a racetrack in my life or wager on horses.

What I am saying is...the standard of journalism was good & the editorial was good...writers etc..was good...Today, it is a crappy & shitty paper, good enough for my dog, Poop And Pee...

He shone and dazzled through his stellar career in Singapore's legal service. The peak of his 21-year career, was when he founded the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD), charged with the duty of bringing commercial criminals to task. It all came crashing down in 1991, when he was probed and subsequently convicted of commercial crimes.


Following his first conviction, Glenn Knight was disbarred from legal practice in 1994. Four years later, he was convicted again for misappropriating CAD funds during his stint as director. It took more than a decade before his application to be reinstated was granted in 2007, this made him the sixth lawyer to be reinstated to the Law Society in Singapore.


Speaking from his small office in Toa Payoh North, Glenn Knight, now 71 years old, is mellow, soft spoken and pensive. He takes a look back at his fall from grace, and shares his thoughts on the path travelled.

GK will not tell the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth. Now, that the 'behemoth' is gone....they are 'soothing' him, with some "balm" to give him some respect that he once had & was.
