Wendy’s/Arby’s Group Inc. (NYSE: WEN - News), one of the leading quick-service restaurant companies, announced the opening of its first franchise restaurant in Singapore. The restaurant was opened in Lau Pa Sat Festival Market.

The company plans to open 35 Wendy’s restaurants in Singapore over the next decade. These restaurants will be opened by the Kopitiam Group, the largest food service management company in Singapore. The company signed the franchise agreement with the Group in May 2009.

The opening of restaurants in Singapore marks a significant step taken by the company to increase its presence in other emerging global markets.

Wendy's has outlined a multi-year turnaround plan to improve restaurant operating margins, reinvigorate brands, revitalize comparable-store sales and expand internationally. Management foresees strategic growth opportunities for both Wendy’s and Arby’s brands, and believes that there is room for over 8,000 restaurants outside of North America.

In 1983, Wendy’s had opened two outlets in Singapore but closed them by 1987.

Last week, Wendy’s declared that it will not renew its agreement with Japan’s franchisee, Zensho Co. Ltd, after both the parties failed to reach an amicable solution on the development of Wendy’s brand in Japan. The contract, which expires on Dec 31, 2009, will result in the closure of 71 outlets by the end of the year. However, the company also notified that it is looking for other strategic franchise or joint venture opportunities in the country.

Wendy’s faces stiff competition from Burger King Holdings Inc. (NYSE: BKC - News), McDonald’s Corp. (NYSE: MCD - News) and Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE: YUM - News). However, these quick-service operators are faring better than casual dining restaurant chains, such as Cosi Inc. (NasdaqGM: COSI - News) and Red Robin Gourmet Burgers Inc. (NasdaqGS: RRGB - News), as cash-strapped consumers trend towards fast-food centers due to cheaper dining options.

Agree with you about KFC. Back in Kallang days, it was good. Now all branches are horrible.

I've eaten at MacD & KFC in other countries & they are better than what I've had in Spore. The same thing with the hawker food in Spore, quality is down compared to years ago.

Its really not surprising when you consider that there is rampant inflation & profiteering in Spore. Even honest businesses can't escape from high rentals & utilities that is caused by the PAP

So in the next election vote for your stomach & vote for the opposition:)

Last time they used fresh chicken from malaysia, now to get constant supply and lower cost they used frozen chicken . Previously used colectramat cooker , now if i am not wrong they used hanny penny cooker

frozen live stock full of chemical, they are either rejected food or "over grown" food due to over breed by growth hormones, beware wat u eat... take care bros..

I had nice experience with Wendy's in Manhattan, fortunately didn't find any human finger in my sauce.

Will definitely patronize if I pass by Lau Pa Sat. But highly disturbed that it is franchised by Kopitiam group.

Cannot trust Kopitiam after it killed hawker centre and coffeeshop culture in Singapore.

there is no way all these junk foods are better than this! :D

Better be careful, the fishes nowdays can be tainted with mercury.

That's why the omega 3 I'm taking is molecularly distilled to remove pollutants like mercury.

As long as the omega 3 comes from a fish source, there is a chance that it may be tainted no matter what the label may claim.

If you are looking for Omega 3, 6 or 9 better to stick with plant source like Flax.

I'm using both, brown flaxseed meal sprinkled over oats & "molecularly distilled" fish oil capsules.

Molecularly distillation is the only reliable way to filter out pollutants like mercury, PCBs, ... You can find out more about the process:

Fish oil is a better than flaxseed in that it provides EPA. If you take flax, the body has to creat EPA from ALA . When you get older the body's efficiency in converting EPA from ALA degrades. So determing the correct flax dosage can be problematical.

Taking 2 capsuls of fish oil provides me with EPA/DHA of 650mg/450mg. Its simple & convenient .

Well, to some, it is worth to keep the body in optimum condition for taking in flaxseed, i took it daily, and save the animals from worthless exploitation to the human stomach. For those companies that exploit animals, they will always come up with scientific reports that will protect their trade. i don't usually believe in them.
