Ahead of Teacher's Day on Friday, Sept 7, the Education Ministry has given the educators an early present in the form of a pay rise.
From Sept 1, 26,000 teachers and 500 allied educators will be paid more, in a move the Ministry of Education said is to "keep pace with the market and commensurate with their roles and responsibilities".
Teachers in the General Education Officer (GEO) and Senior Education Officer (SEO) grades will get a raise of 8 per cent. This means that GEOs could get up to $550 more a month, while SEOs could get up to $830 more.
Allied educators will also get between 5 to 15 per cent more a month, depending on their pay grade. This translates into up to $700 more a month.
