From the shitty times, "202 cases of lorries breaking new rules" Spetember 04, 2009...
We all are concern about the workers being ferried in an usfae manner, instead of getting to the root of the problems, by holding dialogues with those companies who need to ferry their workers daily; to find out the problems, and resolve it. They take an easy way out.... in the name of looking after the FT's...they pass a law that bring in quick income..FINES!
from the report:
Summons issued
1. workers seated higher than 1.1m.... caught 114, fined $200 each
2. excess.... up to 25%... caught 20, fined $500
3. excess.....more than 25% , court cases ( more money)
4. incorrect... caught 21, fined $100
Total quick income collected fron enforcements :
1. 114 x S$200= $22,800
2. 20 x S$500= $10,000
4. 21 x S$100= $2,100
Total : $34,900
That is a lot of income....I do not think any employer here, wants to pay that amount of fines willingly?. Question is, were they given enough time to modify their vehicles to specifications & in an economic downturn like now, can they afford the modification?
Looks like they are more concern with the 'upturn the downturn' with their income, and is not concern with those being fined gets ' downturn the upturn'...now many companies are seeing some gliimer of 'light'..in a slowly improving economy.
Welcom FT's...we look after U.... when SINgaporeans loosing their jobs...
