Watches

I am not a fan....I still stick to Rolex sports models (but dislike the new models)....but many young collectors are going for Panerai now....the prices have been going up....dunno if the trend/fad will continue.

panerai trend started in japan about 8 years ago ...i got my pan 9years ago . singaporean are always to slow to follow tread ;) . the reason why pan become so popular its because of japanese market .

Remembered back in late 90s the Rolex 14270 was super hot in entire Asia due to jap star TK (the gatsby ad guy) wearing it....Prices shot up due to no stock....I sold a few pieces making tidy profit.

Sinkie land not only lag behind Jap and Korean but even HK in trends.

Yours Manual or Automatic ?

i think Manual no such problem.

i now look at my phone for the time ...

Quartz watches, lagi no problem.

When I was a kid, I got my (Casio) watches from May May Watch.

It used to be at Albert Complex (which is now OG Albert).

Now, they have moved to The Bencoolen.

It's quite a friendly, reputable watch dealer.

The reason is that Singapore is not a consumer economy. Too much income is locked up in property and car loan servicing. But the consumer market is a large untapped sector of our economy if this money can be released.

I sometimes wonder why people wear Mont Blanc, Penarai etc. pens worth hundreds of dollars when their handwriting is like kindergarten kids' shit. A 50-cent BIC ballpoint pen in my hand would turn out handwriting worth thousands of dollars in several languages. Anyway, I use Parker usually, not the high end type, just the S$20 type. I've also tried Sheaffer in schooldays but I find the Parker inkflow much smoother. I've also used Parker square nibs for manuscript lessons.

For Chinese calligraphy, I've used Maha Yuyi made-in-Shanghai brushes. That's good enough until I discovered Japanese brushes. There're very classic high end ones available in Japan but not in Singapore, I don't think that's available anymore after Daimaru closed down. I used to get my brushes there, mid range made by Pentel, but hell of a good enough. Even Takashimaya doesn't sell that. But what the hell, too lazy to be bothered with practising brush calligraphy nowadays.

I can write all 46 hiragana and 46 katakana with traditional brush beautifully because of my childhood Chinese calligraphy training by my mother. My Japanese almost-mother-in-law was so impressed and happy. But too bad things didn't work out. Thosse were young and restless days and wanderlust was still strong.

If you have the time, you should learn. It's more disciplinarily instilling than martial arts.

Whats manual?
Auto would mean no batteries....

Manual watches are winding watches. You have to wind them every now and then.Usually dress watches for ladies. But I have 3 such antique watches as my collection.Favre-Leuba-Swiss , mechanical time pieces since 1737 making it the oldest Swiss watch brand.
