In the movie "Fat Man, Little Boy", the code names of the 2 bombs, you could see that the scientists in Ameica were extremely reluctant, on a humanitarian basis, tp produce the bomb. But it was deemed necessary to finish off the war and to save up to 500,000 American lives.

But the Japanese and the Germans had also explored the possibilty of building the bomb and found that it was unfeasible.

In fact it was the British, who among other things ( they were the most prolific discoverers and inventors in the 2nd World war- and their products actually ushered the world into the tech age), calculated that it was possible.

And when during the Manhattan Project ( the making of the bomb), the MAerican hit a bump in the trigger system of the bomb ( still the most complicated part of the bomb even today), it was the Brits who created it.

It had to be done.

The Japs started the war with US first. They sunk the US navy while at the same time invading the rest of Asia.

The bomb on Hiroshima took 135,000 lives, Nagasaki 64,000. The Americans could have targeted Tokyo and millions would have perished along with Emperor Hirohito and gang. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen as a demonstration of US military might and a warning to Emperor H and his generals that they - the Japs - faced certain annihilation if they refused to lay down their arms.

When the Japs declared war, they must know that their enemies will do whatever it takes to overcome them. USA did not choose to atom-bomb 20 Japanese cities when they could have done that, Japan should've said thank you for that. For the victim who asked "how could this happen?".....thousands of victims in Nanking, China and other parts of Asia, also asked the same question of their Japanese invaders. What did the Chinese do to deserve that from the Japs?

That's right. They killed 350,000 people overnight in the rape of Nanking. these people are not innocent. They supported a militaristic Japan and the A bomb is the ONLY solution as diplomacy failed and if protracted more than 1 million people in South east asia would also have died. Easy to complain now but afterall every single japanese who supported the war and emperor hirohito asked for it. They are part of the system.

It was quite disappointing to see that if the Little Boy had been dropped in Geylang, Toa Payoh and Paya Lebar would have survived the immediate impact.

Nagasaki and Hiroshima must have been pretty dense cities.

Perhaps it's a plausible way to cleanse Geylang.

The other massacres in China

1. its only in nanjing 350K (an ang moh estimates, it is much higher according to the chinese)

2. in NE china (Heilongjiang, 满州国) they used chinese for biological experiments. 平顶山惨案 massacre was an atrocity committed by Japanese troops and police against Chinese civilians during the Pacification of 满州国

3. the Battle of Shanghai is known as the Battle of Songhu, is one of the big massacre in WW2 after Nanjing.

4. Hunan (the Japanese retreated after one of their worst defeats)

5. Singapore

etc...

add up millions went missing and dead, and never return...
