A TRUCK driver who caused the death of an elderly pedestrian was fined $6,000 and banned from driving for four years on Wednesday.

Bian Ruxin, 31, a Chinese national, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Madam Tan Ah Peck, 82, along Pandan Gardens on May 25.

A district court heard that he was driving a trailer and making a right turn into Pandan Gardens when he failed to keep a proper lookout while changing lanes from left to right.

The trailer hit and ran over Madam Tan who was crossing the road. She was pronounced dead on the spot.

Bian could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for causing death by doing a negligent act.
