You are right, normally this is not a matter of life and death but for PAP's candidates, especially ministers, the stake is really high. It is not only million dollar pay at stake but the reputation and status...etc.

When you go into a contest with the mindset of "can't afford to lose", the amount of pressure and stress will be extremely high. But the truth is, PAP could afford to lose a couple of GRCs without losing their power as the ruling party.

I am very concerned that Opposition candidates like Goh Meng Seng have publicly declared they would be happy to accept the Non-constituency MP posts if they are among the 9 best losers of the GE. By doing so, GMS has lost 50% of the battle even before the election campaign has begun. I am sure this is NOT what the great strategist Sun Tze had in mind, right??
From what GMS had said so far in this forum, it seems that he has no game plan and NO BURNING DESIRE to win the fight with Mahboro Tan and his PAP gangsters. That makes me very upset. There are many Oppostion candidates who want to get into Parliament via the easy route i.e. becoming NCMPs WITHOUT having the need to serve the constituents on the ground level.
Such Oppostion candidates should realise that they are scoring an OWN GOAL and doing their supporters a GREAT DISSERVICE.

Dear sampierre, everyone just have to decide for themselves, and offer assistance to the budding politicians...

politics is always not easy, especially pit against strong Forts...

what I can observe is that right now, the PAP is losing the confidence of the Singaporean Citizens very quickly...

And Singaporean Citizens are feeling the pinch in their pockets from every directions...

However, on why the PRs and FTs not complaining is because as referenced from their previous country of origin, there is substantial pay increase, and a substantial living standard increase as compared with their country of origin... thus, in terms of economic profits, and social profits they have seen an increase, and would be grateful.

On the other hand, the economical profits and social profits of the local Singaporean Citizens have seen a degration as compared more than 5 years ago.

So, the Singaporean Citizens are feeling outcasted in their own country, and feel that the PRs and FTs are having a better treatment...

For any politicians to be elected, first, they must have popular support from the Citizens... and right now, the pool of politicians contending against the Fort created using GRC strategy is not big enough...

Time will tell, there will be more and more young politicians joining the Opposition... and I really hope that the opposition join forces, ignoring their policy differences for the time being, and combine their energies to get at least a GRC first.
