Switzerland has a good system whereby before any laws or big government decision is taken, it needs to be approved by the public via a referendum

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger -2003 to 2011- of California followed such. Many his policies were based upon referendums. It turned out to be a fiasco. California is State filled with migrants & laid back individuals whom presumed the gravy train will always be there for them, would vote foolishly only for their own self centred selves, & thus even today, California is a joke.

They are NOT like the Swiss, whom are descendants with single cultural heritage over centuries & with legacy of fortitude left behind by their forefathers, & thus are responsible people. So when referendums are made known, they know what is at stake, & thus they chose wisely

Referendums as govt policies are NOT for everyone, as a society is made up of MANY different Humans whom have many different perceptions to the directions a nation has to take to survive - some will be altruistic, some will be cocky & presume the World owes them a living, & even some whom are good hearted will be naive to trust those whom are cocky just because they are loud....& thus after such a vote, the consequences will be dire, as happened to California....
