Vivian: Why SGs not excited abt YOG?

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan urged Singaporeans to “rally” behind Youth Olympic Games

March 21, 2010

Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Vivian Balakrishnan urged Singaporeans yesterday to “rally” behind the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to be held in Singapore soon in order to make it a success.

“We need every Singaporean to understand that this is not just about sports or young people – it’s for all Singaporeans. All the effort that we invest in this will be wasted if every Singaporean doesn’t feel that this is a once-in-a-lifetime event, that the Olympic flame is going to come to Singapore in such a close way and isn’t touched by it or affected by the Olympic spirit one way or another,” he was quoted as saying in the Straits Times.

Chup cheng kia stressed that the “goal” is now to recreate the buzz: “We’ve got to find ways for the hawkers, for the taxi drivers, the bus drivers, the small and medium enterprises to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to showcase their products and their services to the world,” he added.

Yea, Ms. Vivian can get the PRC whores in Geyland and outside the casinos (including Marina Sands by then) to "showcase" their products.

Stupied PAP, the YOUTH Olympics is practically an unknown sporting event...who has heard of it before. The real Oymplic touch did not even come to Singapore...it went to Jarkarta, then KL then Ho Chee Meng City. Singapore gave a stupid reason that it was bec. of security reason that the touch did not come....then what about Jarkarta and KL; does PAP imply they are safer places?

I can forsee, They can't even get enough runners for the Olympic torch and need to draft all the N.S. boys to fill up the National Stadium.

Stupid Minister has everything worng...his lady name is wrong in the first place..."Vivian"...fuck a man with a female name...why don't his parents know better. Might as well call him Mary, Jennifer or Ah Kua is better.

Wrong name, not enough to help the poor, cannot even get the Sports Hub built, the National Stadium after saying bye bye now instead being planned as a "sports hub"......hopeless Ah Kua!

Fucking Lee Kuan Yew and Sissy Loong get this type of Ministers.

YOG is not for Singapore citizens to buzz about. It's for PRCs in Singapore to cheer about. Whoever knows anything about sports knows that China will be at the top end of the medal haul and Singapore at the bottom end.

I can't see many Singaporeans interested except for relatives and friends of the participants. But of course, worse come to worst, they always have a last resort. Put national defence, education and civil service on hold. Compel NSmen, students and civil servants to go attend.

Just like they took a bus load of RC dogs to the PAP election rally and appears like they are popular and "well-loved"?

Yes i know and that is why he should know that nothing is for free and 2 bottles of MW and a packet of fried beehoon is not good enough. He should up the stakes and increase it to a reasonable amount. At the same time, that can only help some needy/unemployed to earn some extra cash for survival..

I 'd like to know how many PAP MPs & family members are willing to volunteer to help in this event

Don't insult LHL's girlfriend ok :D

If not wrong, they do this for every event organised by the grassroots for the MIWs. Most of times, can see few buses along road when such community events is on, probably ferrying old folks to these events to make MIW look good and loved. Old folks not fast enough to pour kerosence and light fire before being subdued.

Sure there are. Some volunteered as guests-of-honour, some volunteered to accompany the guests-of-honour and some volunteered to help finish up the free VIP tickets and VIP buffets (not the pack of rice with 1 meat 1 veggie and bottle of water the other volunteers get).

Below show the cheapskate origin of the Youth Olympics......it was the "World Youth Games" which was held only one time then closed down in 1998...no one watched.

This new version will suffer the same fate especially is starts from SINKgaPOOR.

World Youth Games
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The World Youth Games was an international multi-sport competition for athletes 17 or under on the 31st December of the year of competition. Although intended to be held every four years, the only event was staged in Moscow, Russia in 1998 [1].

In 2007, the IOC announced that they would be holding the Youth Olympic Games from 2010 onwards, with Singapore beating Moscow in the voting to stage the event. [2]

The name "World Youth Games" has sometimes been used in the media to refer to individual sport championships for younger competitors, but not as their official title."

If got free things without working easy to find volunteers lah.:D
Even I wouldn't mind a free lunch.

They'll probably have to draft in the hapless students & NS slaves

Actually I don't think PRCs even care. As to relatives and friends of participants let's just say it will be lip service. :D

Written by Our Correspondent
Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Vivian Balakrishnan urged Singaporeans yesterday to “rally” behind the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to be held in Singapore soon in order to make it a success.
Dr Vivian had expressed concerns that the YOG fever has yet to sweep the nation with only 150 days to go.
This is hardly surprising as Singaporeans are in no mood to welcome the YOG. Though Singapore is now technically out of recession, the economic reality on the ground remains grim.
While the cost of living has sky-rocketed, especially that of public housing, the wages of Singaporeans have not kept pace with inflation.
The real earnings of local workers (including PRs) had decreased by 3.2 percent last year even as the PAP ministers look set to receive a hefty 8.8 percent pay hike.
Dr Vivian seems to be living in an ivory tower and remains blind to the hardships and sufferings of ordinary Singaporeans.
“We need every Singaporean to understand that this is not just about sports or young people – it’s for all Singaporeans…..’All the effort that we invest in this will be wasted if every Singaporean doesn’t feel that this is a once-in-a-lifetime (event), that the Olympic flame is going to come to Singapore in such a close way and isn’t touched by it or affected by the Olympic spirit one way or another,” he was quoted as saying in the Straits Times.
Dr Vivian stressed that the “goal” is now to recreate the buzz:
“We’ve got to find ways for the hawkers, for the taxi drivers, the bus drivers, the small and medium enterprises to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to showcase their products and their services to the world,” he added.
The goal of Dr Vivian and MCYS is to ensure that all Singaporeans are sufficiently clothed and fed.
Though Singapore is the second richest country in Asia after Japan, Singaporeans enjoy few social welfare benefits from its miserly PAP government which exhorts them to work for as long as they can well into their golden years till they drop dead while being “faster, cheaper and better” at the same time.
When asked by MP Lily Neo in 2007 to increase the monthly PA allowance so that its recipients can have three basic meals a day, Minister for Community, Youth and Sports Dr Vivian Balakrishnan retorted:
How much do you want? Do you want three meals in a hawker centre, food court or restaurant?
He added that “one limiting factor must be the sum that we give through public assistance cannot be so generous as to erode the work ethic.”
[Source: Channel News Asia, 9 March 2007]
It was revealed that there were only 11 successful PA applicants between July 2008 and Deccember 2009. MCYS said that the low numbers showed that Singaporeans want to be as “self-reliant” as much as possible.
Dr Vivian Balakrishnan costs Singapore taxpayers about $1.9 million dollars a year or $5,278 dollars a day. When your correspondent completed typing this article after 20 minutes, he would be $100 richer.

Ancient China, an emperor asked his minister "why don't these people eat meat porridge?" when he saw those people hungered from famine.

I heard the MOE has already forced primary schools to participate in this 3rd class event. The entire staff and students in one school that I know of were all "volunteered" for this sporting events.

REAL COUNTRIES GET THE SUMMER OR WINTER OLYMPICS. BANANA REPUBLIC DICTATORSHIPS GET THE YOUTH OLYMPICS.

SIMI LANJIAO YOUTH OLYMPICS!

DUN COME AND DISRUPT LIMPEI TV PROGRAMS FOR PAP's MASTURBATORY MONEY WASTER! LIVE COVERAGE SHOULD BE CONFINED TO THE MOST ROTTEN CHANNEL 5 ONLY.

Ah the infamous idiot emperor Hui of the Jin dynasty.

Cannot blame these people, they live in a very different world.

I have stopped to do social work. The kind of life those people in poverty live are unbearable, even I am from a very poor family, when I was young.

Are these old folks getting anything for their troubles:confused:

If the PAP is taking advantage of these folk they'll get alot of bad karma

And what does the PAP get for taking advantage of millions of sinkies for 40 years? Really really bad karma?
