SINGAPORE : Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan has said he is looking forward to a contest from the opposition parties eyeing the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC.

He said the next few weeks will be a good period for voters to listen, think and ultimately make a choice.

Dr Balakrishnan, who is also MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, said: "Our residents know us. They know the track record. We deliver. And also we do not believe in making empty promises or big promises. So we are quite happy to stand on our record, and let the residents be the judge. Who can deliver and who can they trust. Ultimately, I think that is what this election in this area will be about."

Dr Balakrishnan was speaking to reporters after launching the North West Residents' Committee Walk on Sunday morning, where he joined in a two-kilometre brisk walk with some 600 residents at Lompang Road in Bukit Panjang.

The North West Brisk Walking Clubs also received a cheque for S$250,000 from a corporate organisation, London Weight Management.

The money will be used to organise 40 more walks for the North West District this year.

The cheque was presented to Mayor of North West District, Dr Teo Ho Pin.

Holland-bukit timah GRC!!!! If I were Vivian, with balless majority hapless Ah Beng around, I will kuai lan too and dare Ah Beng in broad daylight. In fact, Vivian can be considered polite and giving Ah Beng some face saving. That GRC is as good as in the bag for the PAP. No way the fat cats in that posh district will vote opposition. Vivian's paycheck is is confirmed till 2016/17.

Track record and trust he said? Lets recap what happened after 2006 :

- GST raised 1 July 2007

- Tuitions fees in University, Polytechnics & ITE raised

- More ERP gantries installed

- ERP rates went up

- Healthcare cost increased

- HDB price increased

- Immigration went up

- PUB bills increased

- Salaries of ministers went up

- Public transport fare increased

- MRTs got more packed

- COE/Car price increased

- Viewing of World Cup charge increased

- Retail price increased in tandem with PAP rental rates of entities under their control

- Told us to send our elders to JB

- etc.

I'd say they have a lousy track record and I don't trust them.

ministers claim they r good n competence.
But .... he said .... he underestimated d cost of IT during d yog.

mistreating , offering "dog food" 4 all d kind spirited volunteer.
not 2 mention food poisoning ....which he is quick 2 blame d suppliers.

i have been living at holland v for many years and have not even meet you, what are you talking about we know you? i only know you couldnt even run the youth olympiad properly. Certifcates print wrongly, food poisioning, wtf.

Somebody pls tell him he is not running for the President of a students union anymore. He might have been very clever then, but he owes his good fortune to any opposition party not giving him a challenge in his ward. Should the Oppo want to fight him, he better know he is gonna be dragged over the coals, not some student politicking stuff.

How true! Actually he used to be a nice person and a very competent eye specialist! He should have remained in medicine. Politics esp.PAP-style politics have changed and spoilt him thoroughly. A real pity!
