A photo of a Chinese tourist defecating in the middle of downtown Jeju City has gone viral online, causing widespread shock.
On June 18, a post titled "Chinese tourists are really too much. Please take a look" was uploaded to the Jeju mom's cafe. The poster stated, "It's ok that Chinese people come to Jeju for travel, but having a child defecate on the streets of another country is infuriating. As a Jeju resident, I was so angry that I reported the incident to the police," and shared the photo.
The photo shows a young boy squatting next to a street tree with his pants down, defecating. Beside him is a woman who appears to be his mother and another person standing by.
The poster expressed their frustration, saying, "What on earth are they thinking? Our people even clean up after their dogs with bags, but this is human feces... Why are they dirtying another country?"
They continued, "They illegally cross the street in groups even when the light is red as if it were green. I don't understand where their sense of common decency ends. If you see such Chinese tourists, let's all report them together."

The poster added, "There are a lot of strange people these days, so try to avoid dangerous confrontations. Instead, report them via text or phone to hopefully prompt the installation of etiquette warning signs."
A netizen who claimed to have witnessed the incident firsthand shared a video they took, saying, "It was a scene I had never seen before in my life. I stood there in a daze for a while before recording it. They were all Chinese, and when I said something in English to them, they just ignored me."
Netizens reacted with shock, commenting, "Even neighborhood dogs have their waste picked up in bags. Is that a person?," "Excessively uncivilized," and "Is defecating on the street normal in their country?"
In Korea, defecating, or urinating on the street is punishable under the Misdemeanor Punishment Act.
Article 3 of the Misdemeanor Punishment Act states, "A person who spits or defecates in public places, such as streets or parks, where many people gather or pass, may be fined up to 100,000 won or detained."
