Village chief held for molesting six-year-old
HULU SELANGOR: After two years of silently enduring sexual attacks by a “pakcik” (uncle) at her Islamic day-care centre-cum-kindergarten, a six-year-old girl finally mustered the courage to tell her mother.
“The mother, who works as an assistant health officer, lodged a police report on Tuesday, which led to the arrest of a penghulu (village head),” Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Norel Azmi Affandi Yahya said.
Investigations revealed that the centre in Kuala Kubu Baru is run by the suspect’s wife.
“The 53-year-old suspect was arrested in Kampung Kelapa, near here,” Supt Norel Azmi said, adding that he was released on bail on Friday.
Police did not rule out the possibility that other children being taken care of at the centre may have been sexually assaulted as well.
The case is being investigated under Section 377E of the Penal Code. If convicted, the suspect can be jailed up to five years and caned.
Meanwhile, the girl has undergone a medical examination at the Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital.
