I will refrain from putting in my 2 cents at the moment because:
(a) We know SPF is not above such acts
(b) We also know Ah tiongs are capable of fabrication at drop of hat to suit their purposes
Case in point. I personally witnessed the expatriation of a few china nationals (for overstaying) some years ago. When the were flown home, they collaborated to exaggerate the "appalling" conditions at ICA, saying how they were fed food beside dirty toilet bowls in the toilet, slept in air con rooms with air con full blast without blankets or beds, not allowed personal hygiene, etc.
I've mentioned before half of the cases HOME and TWC2 deal with have no basis in reality. Activists are routinely taken for a ride because they are naturally sympathetic to foreign labour and tend to believe in them, which makes them vulnerable to fabrication.

Fair enough. Perhaps you can comment on the unusual statement by SPF. Why didn't SPF just state clearly that the allegations are untrue?
Think about it ... if they just said it is untrue they will be accused of covering up of their own men. Anyway like you said, rather wait for GD/Scroobal to comment.
Why should they? Let the Ah Tiong go lodge a police report for the assault. If found untrue, charge the Ah Tiong for lodging false report better.
SPF appears to be setting a new standard where allegations of beating that make it to the msm are not investigated and refuted as being false.

GD busy hanging flower, allow me to share. camera, yes. but more like cctv around the station and for security purpose. not like those in drama during interview. last time, accused was whack at time and any where in the station. now everywhere got camera, including lock up. last time favourite place to wack accused was in the lock up, like WWF cage match. policeman inside fighting with accused.
The PAP government must protect the integrity of the SPF and sue this guy for defamation. That's what they have done all the time, so there's no reason why they shouldn't do it this time unless the allegation is true.
Hard to confirm it is history. There are still some in the SPF who behave like SS chaps. From my experience, usually no assault in sensitive cases. More so when confessions aren't needed. Top management will never direct you to 323 the accused person. No one has the balls to give that type of instructions. Not siding the SPF but I think the complaints by the Chinamen involved were made up.
In the 90s, there were discussions on video recording of statements. None of the agencies supported this idea. Let's be honest. If there is no threat, inducement or promise and when the evidence is weak, why would a suspect PG or confess?
In a nutshell, our investigators have not reached the level whereby they are comfortable with their interviewing or interrogation techniques being recorded. All their statements recorded would be thrown out in court. If Dy Dir Investigations CPIB was a flop, need I say more about newer, younger, less experienced investigators?

Yes, CCTVs are all over but not at strategic places. My office had no CCTV. Can assault in my office. Interrogation rooms also not equipped with CCTVs.
Once assaulted an accused for a High Court trial. Knna, even the judge did not believe a person in my position would assault an accused. I am a very decent looking chap machiam professor!

You are right brother , lockup and interrogation room is the good place to whack accused . Some garang accused even challenge mata to take off uniform to 1 to 1 .

Police said in a statement on Tuesday night that they are aware of the video interviews.
They urged the two men, 32-year-old He Jun Ling and 33-year-old Liu Xiang Ying, to make a police report so that they can investigate the case.
Police said the defendants' lawyers can also raise this matter in court when the case against them is heard.

A case of this nature would be classified as not only sensitive but of national security interest as it involves crippling an essential service. It is no longer a usual crime thought they were arrested for a case of a criminal nature.
The primary purpose of such interrogation is to determine who the ringleaders are or if there are foreign influence at work. The accused's culpability is not the primary concern. There is also the issue that unlike locals who you can detain until the authorities are satisfied, time is of the essence. Interrogation has to be extra persuasive to get results. But they have to be careful not to leave marks as embassy officials must have access.
Any information "coughed up" will be compiled and intelligence dossiers built to follow up.
