All these fucking communist bastards can only talk, but no real action. Take China, every other day talking of invading Taiwan, but until today, still a no-show.

Putin won't take failure for an answer. I believe he will do it, but waiting for legitimate reason for western countries to give him the green light to push the button.
Two reasons why he would not do it. Russia would be annihilated, his reign is over. 2nd reason, he would lose china's support, Xi has warned him against using nukes.
Russia is too big and its population are scarce and widely dispersed. Number of casualty will be greatly reduced as compared to New York, California or Washington DC. Holland will not exist and EU maps completely altered. President Xi has no part in the Westerners war game. Probably, it will also be the best time to take on Taiwan once America is destroyed by Russia Nuke. Modi will be hiding in a cave, see no evil, hear no evil and speak of no evil and meditating away while the world rage on.
I meant the big cities and vital infrastructure in Russia will be annihilated. It will be a "many to one" scenario (multiple nuke launches from various countries concentrated on targets within Russia). Good luck to the russkies. We know their air defence is rubbish.
Putin's grip on power is very much tied to his friendship with and support from Xi. So he can't afford to lose that. Xi and china are not ready to deal with the fallout from an unsuccessful invasion of Taiwan. I am not a fan of Taiwan, but they are safe.
All this is moot or a non-starter, because in reality Putin's nukes are obsolete. Probably won't be effective at all. Xi is pragmatic, he won't attack Taiwan. There is no benefit to be gained, only death, destruction and economic collapse, plus alienating china from the world. But he still needs to rally the country with this, and to appease the nationalistic elements.
