A female trainee teacher jumped to her death 16 storeys high in front of the police and civil defence on 25 June.

The incident happened at 11.45am on 25 June at block 47 at Bedok South Ave 3. The trainee teacher was a 23 year-old from China named Zhang Rui and said to be a trainee teacher at National Institute of Education (NIE). Zhang is believed to have rented the 16 floor apartment with friends.

The entire incident was capture on video by a resident in the area. In the minute-long footage, the girl can be seen sitting on the edge of the kitchen window. The camera then shifts to a fire engine arriving at the scene. At this point of time, a scream can be heard, the camera begins to shake and a figure is seen falling from the building.

According to report in Lianhe Wanbao, Ms Zhang was wearing a white top and jeans. She is said to have suddenly sat on the edge of her kitchen window, drawing attention of the area’s residents - the police and the civil defence arrived shortly after. A resident of a 15 floor unit who did not want to be named said he saw police and civil defence officers rushing up to the 16 floor at around 11.50am.

In the report, the resident said he heard the sound of a hard object breaking glass and then a loud “thump”. He believes this is when the girl hit the ground. When looked downstairs, he saw the girl lying face down next to the drain. The civil defence had dispatched a fire engine, two motorcycles, an ambulance and two supporting vehicles but the girl fell before they had time to lay out the safety mattress.

According to her neighbour, 30 year-old Le Si Li, Zhang moved in with three to four friends in January 2012. They closed their door most of the time and did not interact much with the neighbours. Ms Le said that a few hours after the incident, three girls returned to the unit, packed up their belongings and left.

Seven relatives and friends went to identify the body at the morgue but declined to give any comment. The police have said they are classifying the case as unnatural death and are investigating.

What if : one day, you and i need to work overseas to earn a living, would we want someone more compassionate to be able to let us have a space to stay and breath and work, and dont wanna to be despised and being called : stupid singlish singie pigs or blah blah........ fuck back to your own country blah blah.............. We will be like these jumpers, jump down from some super tall building in that country...........
