Video - Dr Koh avoids reporter's question on Medisave use by Elderly.....

He thinks he is smart by 'siaming' the question - but in all of our minds, we know that he is talking through his ass.

So, not even erected, he is half-way to mastering the art of avoiding answering questions. He is just making a fool of himself, over and over again.

How can you say that the good doctor is "siaming" the question. This is a very loaded question which requires a drastic change of policy. Dr Koh is only a candidate. He is not even an MP yet. I think he was right and diplomatic to avoid answering the very sensitive question.Healthcare provisions have made many changes through the years with the implementation of Medisave. Unless you know exactly what is the present situation, you cannot simply shoot from your hip.

Yes, allowing those above 75 to use their medisave for their healthcare needs is a very admirable and laudable proposal but you need to study how many people are in this category and how much do these people really have in their Medisave. Those statistics are not immediately available. So you cannot simply answer a question without knowing the facts.

In fact, many Singaporeans above 75 have negligible Medisave savings. There are already in place many medical assistance schemes to help this category of people who require medical care - CHAS is one good example. So it is not true that our government is neglecting the elderly, the sick and the needy. If you need help, there are avenues where you can approach for assistance and in most instances, you will be given adequate medical and financial assistance.

So I think Dr Koh is right to avoid answering the question directly .He was not equipped with all the facts and figures to make any statement when questioned - a long and tortuous question by the reporter. I see no loss at all.No harm done. I don't see why there is so much angst over this video clip.If you are not too sure about a subject, just skip it.It's okay.No shame at all. Rather then rattling rubbish and spouting nonsense. Or even writing nonsense.

Not only he avoided the question, his reply shows disdain. He does even attempt to look sincere. He could have said that these things are reviewed and that he is prepared to look into it or that resources are limited and therefore qualifications have to be strict. And he is in the medical profession and the question is about access to medicine.

I have issues with this guy's integrity as a whole after his series of over the top claims. Reporters asked him about his cars and he said that he he has 2, one for his and wife and one for himself because they are professionals. Found it queer that he felt the need to qualify car ownership with being professionals.

You sort of get uncomfortable with people who provide answers overtime that shows signs of omitting material facts or providing misleading answers. This guy falls in this category.

I am surprised that selection process can't throw out better candidates despite it well known rigour. Either good people do not want to be associated with the PAP or people running it are flawed as well.

Of course you are entitled to your opinions and views, and come to your conclusion that this Dr Koh's integrity and sincerity need to be scrutinised. Based on the video clips and press reports, you've formulated your opinion of the good doctor.

This is also the same when you called me a dishonest forummer based on what I wrote and how I behaved here in this forum.

You could be wrong in your judgement based on a flawed perception thus leading to a wrong conclusion -just like intellectual giants here like Jw5.

But it is okay with me. You are entitled to your opinions and I respect them.:)

Even worst, he accused everybody has a car.

What kind of reply is that, please answer as a policymaker and not as a citizen doctor.

Of course everyone know about individual treatment BS, but the question is who pay, how to pay - Even a beauty pageant winner can answer better.

What is that K.C. nodding happily at 46". Another PAP clown utilising his yes-man credentials to the fullest.

Surprising, PAP is putting such low quality candidate, parachute into Punggol East so unprepared for political office.

That's how your million dollars is used for....to feed skiving morons.

Not only are them skiving morons paid millions.

Skiving means that they did not do or participate or answer to what is required of them.

These buggers have already gone to the stage (no thanks to their earlier generation masters) that they would push away ALL blame for things that had gone wrong or policies made by them that had things going wrong.

Total unaccountability and nearing the zone of total irresponsiblity.

Bravo! Great answer. 100% correct. 101% of what make a scholar. 0% of what make a problem-solver.
Just as what I expect from a PAP candidate. The answers are all in the textbook and statistics. Great post.

Medisave is important savings for elderly, be careful with lifting restrictions:Health Minister
By Sharon See | Posted: 23 January 2013 2124 hrs

SINGAPORE: Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said elderly Singaporeans may face greater financial difficulties down the road if they are allowed to use up their Medisave fund without restrictions.

Mr Gan was responding to Workers' Party (WP) candidate for the Punggol East by-election Lee Li Lian's suggestion to allow those above 75 to use their Medisave without restrictions.

He said those facing financial difficulties for their healthcare needs can seek help through schemes, such as the Medifund Silver, which is targeted at those 65 and above.

He said hospitals have been given a lot of flexibility in terms of eligibility criteria so that they can reach out to more elderly who need help.

He added elderly Singaporeans will always receive the necessary healthcare services without worrying about affordability.

Mr Gan was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a clan association's investiture ceremony.

Mr Gan said: "We have to be very careful when we want to remove restrictions on the use of Medisave, especially when we want to remove all the restrictions because we have to be mindful that these are very important savings of the elderly, and they will continue to need the savings as they grow older."

Mr Gan also mentioned other ways the government has been helping the elderly cope with healthcare costs - such as the one-time Medisave top-up of up to S$400 and raising the maximum age coverage to 90 for MediShield.

Mr Gan's comments come a day after WP secretary general Low Thia Khiang said at the party's rally, that the government should do more to help the elderly.

Yes, the Government has responded. The Minister himself has spoken.Good!

When he was first announced as the pap candidate, I asked this question in the forum:

What does Dr Koh see in current day SG society that makes him thinking joining PAP will allow him to contribute more?

Mian mng liao, the answer is clear. Birds of the same feather flock together. Good luck PE residents and voters.

Status quo to prevail if the doc gets voted into parliament. Others who wanted to change failed in the past, assuming there were genuine attempts made in the first place. No reason to believe the doc will succeed even if he is sincere in change. Best of all, how could Pinky declare that this doc is made for higher office?

The reporter took 40 seconds to provide Dr Koh with some background information before posing her questions to seek Dr Koh's opinions.

Dr Koh took a mere 6 seconds to give a rather unhelpful answer.

He completely dodged the question about whether those above 75 years old should be allowed to use their Medisave for health care without restrictions.

A true colorectal surgeon who's interested in arses and nothing else!

I must add that the 40secs was taken because the reporter was fumbling with the question in Chinese.

And the 6 secs from the Doctor was not only unhelpful, but totally off-tangent to the question.

Pinky does that for almost all the candidates he endorses these days. The higher office could be anything from a ministar to a mayor.
It's as if he wants to instill the worry in voters that if they don't vote for the pap candidate, they will lose out on this great "talent", which will be a devastasting "loss" to the nation.
In response to that, we can remind ourselves of the following: zorro, keechiu and lucky.
This should lessen the worry.

If he becomes the MP for PE, the residents there should spend longer asking him questions or trying to get help, if they want a longer reply from him.
Then again, will they really want a longer reply from him if the nature is similar to his reply to that medisave question? Hmmmmm.................................
