If a sinkie was not born in the early 1950s, he would not be able to understand the impact of LKY and the pappies on the lives of sinkies in that era after the war WW2 ended in 1942. LKY changed everything drastically and lawlessness ended.
Sinkies praised pappies like God for food on the table, jobs for them, schools for their children. Today, a different kind of pappies is doing it the opposite way...schools for foreigners, jobs for foreigners, food on the table for foreigners.
Why did he use the same words his father used? No originality
Probably advised by his marketing agent to play on the "LKY Effect", which would have worked very well if the electorate has been less discerning.
But LKY & his pappies descendants..."screwed" SINGAPOREANS, by 'smashing their rice bowls" by allowing 'free flow' cheap labourers from 3rd world countries ( PMETS),they even ' stop their procreation' in STOP AT TWO POLICY, & some even got sued 'off their pants' & many,many, migrated due to the stiff, unyielding, National Slavery ( service?) & education requirements & all our ancestors were even slapped in the face for being dialect speaking, then they started to holding on to yOUR MONEY & placed many of trapped in a perpetual cycle of debts in indirect taxes & housing, the list goes on, & on ....
Yes...he started giving us, food on the table, roof over our heads, a stable & policed country...like "Napoleon" the pig in " Aninal Farm"....the vision was great...then "sold the animals to the farmers"...while those holding the power, were well fed, well paid, are looking rotund & jolly..
Is this what we want in the next 5 years..never mind the next 50...

The first 20 years PAP did a good job of putting food on the table, shelter over our heads, educating our kids, and providing very affordable healthcare. We were a 'socialist' nation, though our rights and freedoms were curtailed and there was no genuine democracy.
The rot started in the mid-'80s when all the public services and stat boards were privatized, ministers were paid astronomical salaries, GDP growth became the yardstick for progress, HDB flats were pegged to private property, and Singapore was turned into S'pore, Inc. The problems were further exacerbated in the '90s when the floodgates were opened to foreigners, resulting in skyrocketing property prices, high cost of living, stagnant wages, PMET unemployment and widening income gap.
The stunted political system and continued govt repression did not help. People could not voice out and agitate for change; progressive opposition figures were either detained under ISA or sued and bankrupted or exiled. Fear permeated the populace to the extent that people daren't even vote for the opposition even though the vote is secret. Through a combination of fear, gerrymandering and pork-barrelling the PAP has continued to maintain its iron grip on power for 50 years.
So the fundamental truism preached ad nauseam by CSJ that without rights and freedoms we cannot fight for our bread and butter has come to haunt us to this day.
May Sep 11, 2015 be a turning point for us.
