The head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Asian Affairs Department, Luo Zhaohui has ended his visit to Japan. And a new round of consultations between China and Japan’s foreign ministers will soon be held to discuss the Diaoyu Islands dispute.
Meanwhile, US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns is now in Asia, for a five-nation trip that will include China. It comes amid the escalation of territorial disputes in the region.
William Burns will visit China Tuesday and Wednesday, and meet with senior government officials to exchange views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern. He's already landed in Japan and will later visit South Korea, Myammar and India. Burns’s visit comes amid high tensions between China and Japan over the Diaoyu Islands.
On Sunday and Monday, Burns is set to meet Japanese Foreign Minister, Koichiro Gemba and Defense Minister, Satoshi Morimoto to discuss US-Japan coordination on regional issues in East Asia, as well as global issues.
